Airfix 1/72 Beaufighter

February 6, 2017 · in Aviation · · 12 · 2.4K

I was going through my posts here on iModeler and realized I never posted about my first build in 2016! During construction I cracked the gunner position canopy. I was able to continue building the kit since the canopy could be put on last. I tried to order a replacement from but, they were out. They did say they would eventually send me a replacement when they produced one, but that was indefinite. So then I looked for another Beaufighter kit. Again I was frustrated by no available kit in the local shops or too high a price for shipping from an online dealer. In the meantime the rest of the kit was completed and for a couple months it sat while I waited for the replacement part. Then on a spontaneous visit to my favorite local hobby shop I found another Beaufighter kit and immediately snapped it up. Using the canopy from the new kit, I finally finished my Beaufighter. Of course, you all know the Airfix replacement part part arrived a few days later. But that's okay because I very much enjoyed making this kit and look forward to doing the other one later this year. Needless to say, it took so long to get the model done I forgot to take pics and post them here. So, here they are!

  1. Forgive my ignorance, but what scale is this? Nice job, by the way.

  2. This looks great !,I really like the scheme and you've done a wonderful job on the finish. Nice modeling Scott !

  3. Great looking Beaufighter - love the scheme you chose for it.

  4. This new Airfix Beau is really spiffy. I like it a lot. You did a great job here with yours.

  5. This model brought me back 40 or so years behind, one of my very first model was the old Airfix Beaufighter in 1/72.

    Nice job Scott.

  6. I, too, remember the original Airfix 1/72 Beaufighter, I can't remember what happened to it, but, I'm sure it wasn't anything like as good as this one. Airfix were always good at replacing parts so I'm glad you eventually got your replacement canopy.

  7. A very nice Beaufighter in a colorful scheme.
    Well done after all 🙂
