Tamiya 1/32 F-4C Phantom USAF early scheme. Vietnam 1965

February 8, 2017 · in Aviation · · 8 · 4.4K

This is my in the early USAF gull gray & white colour scheme used until around 1966 when the SEA camo scheme came into use.
I loved building this kit even though it was a few years ago now. Cockpit is Black Box and there are Aires, Quickboost & Cutting Edge resin detail sets used as well.
The seats were very unusual in that they both had their respective belts arranged differently! - Very cool as you never see 2 seats looking alike in that respect.
Stencils were by Isradecals while the main decals I think, were by Cutting Edge.
I'll start with a few light construction pics to show some progress before moving onto the finished article.
I was seeing stancils in my sleep when I'd finished this one!
The last picture, courtesy of the USAF - Special thanks guys! It shows the look I was aiming for in the phinished Phantom.
Please excuse the 'Kamikaze' Spitfire pilot trying to scupper the build in one picture - You'll all be pleased to know he missed! 🙂

I hope all you Phantom Phans out there like it!
Cheers!

  1. Nice Rhino Gary, the Spitfire would of probably missed the tail end mile a mile.

  2. OMG..! You actually used EVERY stencil on that decal sheet, didn't you! It looks great - one can't have too many Phantoms on the shelf.

  3. Very well done Gary, I wonder how long it took to apply all that stenciling. Incredible!

  4. Gary, I hope your eyesight hasn't suffered.
Brilliant work with the decals, they look like the real thing, plus, you can read them.
Also nice to see the original color scheme for the USAF F-4. SEA tricolor made that go away.

  5. One Phabulous Phantastic Phantom, I can just here the J-79's tooling up!

  6. There is a lot of decals on that! Nice model, great cockpit detail as well.
