D.520 of the Regia Aeronautica, 24th Autonomous Fighter Group, Sicily and Southern Italy
Assembly:
This model was built OOB with the additions of Eduard PE seat belts.
Painting/Decals/Weathering:
I used Polly Scale acrylics and AeroMaster paints; AM RLM 80 olive green on the rudder, PS Italian hazel tan for the upper camo and light blue grey for the underside. Painting applied as per AeroMaster sheet #48-301 call out. For some reason, I had to use a lot of setting solution to get these AM decals to settle down. Chipping was done by applying a light coat of Model Master buffing AL to various spots on the model, spraying the camo color and then peeling it away using masking tape. As is SOP for me, decals were applied on to a gloss coat of Future Floor Wax. Over all dulling of the finish was done using a mix of Acrylic PS Flat and Floquil rail road dust. Exhaust was sprayed with thinned down AM tire black. The panel lines were highlighted with a soft lead drafting pencil.
This is the 4th Tamiya Dewoitine kit I've built-the second in Italian livery. They really are cool little kits. I wanted something fast and easy as for the painting/markings- this paint scheme was different fit that bill.

Erich, agree with George, and also not the usual different French splotches on topsides. Gives it a totally new "look". That was a plane really that got around, surprisingly enough. Fighter trainer with the Luftwaffe, Bulgarians, both sides of the French Air Force.
Nice job Erich really like the desert camo.on this kit. Have one in the stash and was wondering how it went together, now I know. Fast and easy. Looks like a great weekend project.

Your plane looks really great, and it's not a kit you see built that often. I have two of these built in my display cases, and like yours the fit was fantastic. I painted mine in regular French markings, not the "Vichy" markings though. After looking at yours in Italian markings, you got me thinking about a possible build later this year. Thanks for the inspiration, and again I compliment your build. Two thumbs up ! I really like it.

Love it, good to see alternative markings. Have one of these as well for a future build. Don't look like I will get to it this year. But a great inspiration as I have not decided which markings I will use. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent build! Was just reading about the D.520 last night - knew they were given to the Vichy French in N. Africa, but didn't realize the Italians also flew them. I like the desert scheme and Italian markings! I may need to add another to the stash for such treatment...
