Hobbycraft 1/48 Hawker Sea Fury F.B.Mk. II

April 19, 2017 · in Aviation · · 14 · 2.8K

Everyone who has built this kit knows how basic it is. My first attempt ended up in the standard paint scheme of the period (grey, duck egg, w/stripes). I bought this kit already started, The fuselage halves, including the prop, were glued together. So much for any interior work. I had seen this "Australian" paint scheme at an air show some time back, and the scheme really appealed to me. I'm reasonably sure the scheme itself, is a "warbird" scheme, with the "polished metal" nose ring, and probably did not exist on actual "in service" aircraft. I had wanted to keep everything as simple as possible, so it was an easy solution. Unfortunately my kit did not have Australian decals. With help from my friend, and fellow iModeler, Jim Gordon, I was able to piece things together. What came out was a fair representation of what I had set out to do. It was a lot of fun, and a quick build.

I too had this kit built up like your first one. It had a lot of critics but looked like a Sea Fury to me. Nice job.

  2. Beauty, love the scheme

  3. I've never had or built this kit but you did a nice job. The paint scheme is different than the usual & this is good, too. This is a cool aircraft & your work puts it in a great light. Bravo!

  4. You stated it was "already started" - were those accentuated panel lines already there as well or did YOU scribe them...?
And as Jeffery said, it's both 'unusual' AND cool, Joe. 🙂

  5. Wow! That's a really colorful bird! I like it!

  6. Great job! nice scheme

  7. Nice work! Always nice to see alternative schemes, and the Sea Fury has pleasing lines to start with.

  11. Hey Joe ,nice work ,I have the same kit in standard British FAA colour scheme and I agree it is a simple but very nice little kit and yes the panel lines are recessed, can't wait for the new Airfix offering later this year though.
