Airfix Spitfire Mk1a 1/72 Starter Kit
Hi, everybody. This is my first contribution as an article to iModeler. Some years ago I bought this Spitfire MK1a Starter Kit for my then 16 yo step son, but he never got interested in modelling. Anyway, some years later I found this when moving boxes and ask them if he would built it. "Nah, is yours" he said. I wasn't very compelled to build an Airfix, given some recents misfortunes with older kits, but happened that this new tool kits are awesome to work with. The fit is almost perfect, the plastic is excelent and the burrs are nonexistant. I had a lovely time building this. Once almost finished, I though why not making a small diorama? I wanted to do some water and grass? Sad thing, would lost most of the sight of the lovely bottom paint.. I wanted to do a rainy image, with the cockpit open, so I had to saw the provided glass.
Some time later, I sent this pictures to Airfix. They were quite happy for what I did with a starter kit, so they put it in their official facebook. That was nice. Later, somebody sent me the sepia version of my pic, "as an aged picture of 1940" 🙂
Anyway, I hope you like it.
I like the aged picture, wonder how he did it? I find Airfix' recent output is outstanding, they seem to be replacing their old standbys bit by bit. Hoping for a new, correct, Fairey Battle in 72nd, or a Hawker Hart or Demon. Wellington, Hampton.

This guy used a free software called Photoscape, is downloadable for free.
Nice little build, sir...hopefully, we'll see more of your work here on iModeler in the future (perhaps with some 'updated' Airfix kits). 🙂
BTW, I love home solutions to technical problems. The water was done with acrylic medium (not very successfully, maybe the technique needs more gesso) and the grass with a cheap white hair paint brush.
Nice Spit! I've still to build a new-tool Airfix, but am about ready to start the Do-17 iModeler provided in the random draw. There is something about building the old kits that really appeals to me - having to use some minor scratch building, paint and weathering to hide the lack of detail and other flaws.
Well built,I can remember the early Airfix kits they were cheap and the only ones I could buy,the company has been around a long time and now they have come in to the modern times their new kits are great,which shows in your fine work and the added Dio is a nice touch,Welcome.
