I actually finished something….Csaba 39 m

August 18, 2017 · in Armor · · 10 · 2.4K

The 39M is a Hungarian armored car of early WW2. The scale kit is from , I never expected to see one of these from a mainstream molder, but it fits nicely in my armored car collection. My kid got it for me on Father's Day, so I figgered if I'm going to actually finish something it might as well be this. The real trigger was my annual trip to the cabin at beautiful Lake George NY, a whole week of no TV, computer house work or many distractions at all, where I can usually get some kits together. I got this one and the new Tamiya Valentine fully assembled, the Valentine is now painted and awaiting decals and dirt.

The Csaba went together very nicely, low parts count, no interior, no photo etch. The only touchy bit was the radio antenna which had very fine attachment points, glueing one point one at a time did it. Base color is sprayed RAF Dark Green, the other colors are Vallejo Red Brown and Green Ochre, brush painted. Decals worked well with a bit of Solvaset, there are 5 marking variations to pick from. Dirt provided by Tamiya weathering sticks. Two types of tires were included, there is actually a good picture of PC127 from the front on the Hungarian Armor site, which showed me which tires to use, and how the lightning bolt decal needed improvement. I didn't even paint the tires, the molded color is just fine (It's rubber after all).

If your taste runs to the different, or just want an easy one, this is a good choice. I'm looking forward to the next "small army" category.

  1. Your peaceful trip to the lake appears to have been successful (wondered where you'd been, Bill). Nice little build.

  2. Looks great Bill. You did a fine job with this one.

  3. Fantastic, Bill! Great paint & weathering, too. I like the moulded color of the tires, too - especially after you put the "dirt" in the treads.

  4. Very beautiful! and great weathering

  5. 🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :
Very nice build up of a not much known vehicle Bill.
It's shape and camouflage seem different, even the colors.
    The weathering is well done.
It would be nice too have at least one figure beside it for size reference.
    Again Bill ... nice work.

  6. Looks great Bill !

  7. Great build, and interesting subject!

  8. Tanks guys for the en-curridgment. I believe I'm inspired to finish the IBG Marmon-Herrington A/C to further grow the collection.

  9. Another magnificent oddball from Dr. Dirt!
