Not another Phantom…!

August 28, 2017 in Aviation

A quick 2-3 day build followed by another quick set of (indoor) pics – and it unfortunately shows! How does one “weather” a really dark gray airplane? Dunno? Me either apparently. It turned out pretty bad – as is painfully obvious. Even for me. I almost didn’t post it, it’s that terrible. Too bad, too. It [was] a pretty nice Hasegawa 48th scale F-4E – albeit no decals and an instruction sheet from a different Hasegawa Phantom. BUT….where else can ya have fun for an entire weekend for ten bucks..? lol Anyhow….there it sits, looking forlorn among it’s various counterparts. Oh well…onward and upward in a never-ending downward spiral.

  1. You can never have enough Phantoms. Looks good on the shelf.

  2. Thanks, Julian, it may look good from where YOU are….but come look r-e-a-l-l-y close. 🙁

  3. Unique phantom Craigh, the ones in Ghost Busters were white… 😉 Glad you enjoyed the build, that’s the most important thing. Thanks for posting!

  4. Glad to see you’re off the streets, Craig. C.S Lewis comments that someone he knew avoided temptation through the simple enjoyment of liver and onions, and your Phantom beats that plate any day of the week.

What I like (and I am picking this up from several here) is the dedication to doing one particular plane very well through repeated application. I haven’t the time or money for that myself, and too long a bucket list of projects (diversified stash) to make it happen. But I admire it.

  5. Mmmm, liver and onions, delicious. Anyway ten dollars for a weekend’s enjoyment and something to remember it by, can’t be that bad, Craig, your latest Phantom looks OK to me.

  6. 🙂 … Greetings … 🙂 :
Craig my friend … Michel and David are just plain right, their mind set is so valid. You obviously enjoyed the build in some way and your dedication to one type of aircraft ( F-4 ) is so palpable. Nice work on this one.

  7. A finished model always looks good, especially built so quickly. Good job!

  8. Looks good from here and I’m not in China.

  9. Yes! Another Phantom! Nice job, got two in my stash , might have to start one.

  10. The way I see it:
    1. Another Phantom was added to your tarmac
    2. You were too distracted to pay much attention to any “honey-do” list
    3. Fun was had
    4. Cost was right
    5. Another solid excuse to post to iModeler to keep the rest of us entertained.

    What’s left to say???!!!

  11. I like a dark menacing Phantom!! The Keith Ferris camouflaged Phantom in the one photo looks great!!!

  12. Craig, you are a true Phanatic. Between your Snoopies and Corsairs you have to looking for a bigger house, soon!
    Couple of points, though…
You like liver and onions but think SCOTCH is an acquired taste? Really?
A bad day modeling beats the hell out of most other good days.
How much fun do want for ten bucks? Especially if you can remember it…
Great prints of the Ponies and Jugs. I’ve loved Aircraft profiles ever since I was a kid and still do.
I really enjoy your posts and this is a great Phantom.

  13. Looks really nice. Good job mate

  14. Everyone has a down-turn Craig, Lord knows I’ve had many. One thing I’ve done after staring at a few of my uglies is bit the bullet; first I stripped the paint off them (4 of em), fixed the seams and a few other issues and then repainted. Some major satisfaction there!!

    • Funny you should mention that. I considered doing that very thing (and still might down the road). I really screwed the pooch when painting this one. Using the “wrong” paint didn’t help matters any. Thanks for the insight.

  15. Craig, their is something truly wrong with someone who builds too many of one type of model. Let me know what that number is (I have built about 14 P-47s, so far !) Another good looker. Well done !

  16. Well….after seeing that Phantom in Rob’s latest “Friday Briefing” montage (the one pictured immediately following the Avenger in the water) – I don’t feel quite so bad about how my paint job turned out. Wonder what the backstory is with THAT F-4 – looks like it’s been sadly forsaken, doesnt’ it?
