1/48 Late Mk I Hurricane Airfix

September 10, 2017 · in Aviation · · 10 · 1.6K

After buying a reference book about the that had artwork for this a/c I had to try to build it. After a lot of research I found the book artwork to be very inaccurate! I finally located two grainy photos of the a/c online. With this inspiration I started looking for the necessary markings. A fellow modeler came thru with the markings AND the correct spinner from the Hasegawa Mk II kit. While I am sure the model isn't 100% accurate, it is as close as I think it is possible to come. A/c represents a late Mk I from RAF 306 Sq. (Polish) in late 1940. Paints are Mr. Color and Tamiya. The dark earth is a custom mix of Tamiya. Decals are kit and Aeromaster.

  1. Nice lookin' build, Dale...I like it. 🙂

  2. Dale, Looks great !, I wish we were having our show this year, so I could see it in person.

  3. Great job Dale. May I ask what your Dk. Earth mix is? I've got an Fw 190 to be done in RAF colours/markings and the DE mix I've found is XF-52, XF-64, 1:1

  4. Nice Hurricane Dale, very well done.

  5. I haven't met a new Airfix Hurricane that I didn't like. Dale, some lovely painting and the values and intensities of the paint all match so that the kit plays the role of Hurricane very will. Like the prop and spinner too. One little niggle, the eye candy would look even more spectacular if the back round were one color. Perhaps a blue or British green. The cutting board and the card board back round take away from what is a strong piece of modeling,

  6. Thanks Stephen. And I appreciate the advice about the background. From some angles, the Hurricane is sexier than the Spitfire!

  7. Great looking project! Gotta love the Hurricane...

  8. Beautiful Hurricane!
