Airfix 1/72nd Westland Sea King HAR 3

September 2, 2017 · in Aviation · · 14 · 7.5K

The newish Sea Kings are really good kits and build well. Whilst they maybe lack a bit of rivet detail and appear a bit more smoother skinned that real Sea Kings, in that a liveable issue.

One thing Airfix did not so well is the air filter box above the windscreen. The use of decals on a plain sided box just does not look right. I therefore back dated mine to an earlier version.

However I took artistic licence with the markings applied, as they are for a more recent HAR 3A. I can live with it though!

If you like British Sea Kings, then the Airfix kits are spot on. Now here's hoping that they look at doing the Sikorsky versions, as I a real soft spot for US Navy versions.

  5. Mark, a favorite scheme of mine! Really looks the part, too! Thanks for the review, shame about the air filter box, though.

  6. Hello Mark,
Excellent. The weathering makes it complete.

    • Thank you Dirk. Thought an operational finish, rather than air show display finish makes for a nicer model. Well that my excuse as pristine finishes not my strongest point.

  7. very nice. You did a really good job

  8. I like it! You're detail work made the monochromatic yellow scheme come alive.
