Bandai 1/48 AT-ST

September 28, 2017 · in Sci-fi · · 16 · 4.5K

Hi all,
Since brought out their superb kits, I have had the bug to build some of my favourite subjects. This was one of my first Bandai kits and I am very happy with the result.

I wanted to capture the 'David and Goliath' feel of Ewoks and the Empire but 1/48 scale Ewoks are hard to come by. I sculpted this one from Milliput and Tamiya two part epoxy putty.

The was painted with Vallejo acrylics. (If you haven't heard, enamels do nasty things to the Bandai plastic - cracking around any stressed pieces which is is a real problem with what are essentially snap together kits!)

The ground work is a mixture of tea leaves and ground foam on an undulating plaster filler base. The tree is a fallen tree branch I found on my street (Thank heaven for leafy suburbs!) The shrubs were the flower heads from some tall native grasses.

I think I have the roof hatch on backwards in the picture where the hatch is open. Easy to remedy with a snap together model!

Cheers,
Carpo

  1. Not my genre, but a nice little dio nonetheless. 🙂

  2. Nice scene, and well-executed.

  3. I'm a Star Wars Fan and this is beautiful! Great

  4. Thanks for th warning about enamels and Bandai. Looks like you captured what one looks like, Nice hand made Ewok, too.

  5. For Ewoks search for Hallmark ornaments. I have a set of three and at between 1/2-3/4 inch tall they'd pass for 1/48. I have a few of this kits but the AT-ST is on the to buy list. I hope they come out with a B-wing and a 1/48 AT-AT. (I really wish ALL the kits were 1/48 though although the Falcon would be rather large!)

  6. This is a great build!

  7. Paul, I'm basically an airplane guy, but good models are good models and this is very nice. Well done !

  8. I'm not really a star wars nut, but I really like models, and that is an absolutely tremendous one! Amazing skills Paul!

    • Thanks Richard,
Take the AT-ST off and you can put any sort of land vehicle there I suppose! Your Land Rover would fit nicely!
      I loved your Chinook too.
      Cheers, Paul
