Challenger 1

September 17, 2017 · in Armor · · 14 · 2K

Well, it all started with an old model for trash.

The process began by cleaning the model with caustic soda.

I continue with a try paint tests to imitate an abandoned tank in the desert.

He continued with me hooked and hours of tests and layers of paint to finally get here.

This is the first time I do something like this. I would like you to give me your general opinion and things to improve.

  1. I think you have absolutely captured the look of a derelict tank. I've seen plenty of tanks, and other vehicles that were range targets that look just like that.
    I say well done.

  2. Outstanding detail, sir...very nice work.

  3. Very nice work Carmelo ! I wish I could give you some pointers as to how to improve it - but I think I will be the one asking you for pointers.

  4. Hey Carmelo.
You're asking about a general opinion and feedback, but that's a bit like Leonardo asking for feedback for his Last Supper. Your model ist just brillant and getting there means applying such an incredible pile of high end techniques that I just don't know where to begin.
To me therefore it's a piece of art and I do like it!

  5. I think it's great! I would like to alter an Opel Blitz model this way. Can you give all of us a small tutorial on how you arrived at this great result? Thanks and cheers, Michel.

    • I do not know if I will be able to mount a tutorial, since it was one of my first tests with this type of painting, but what I can is explain the steps I have used and the results of these and the materials used.

  6. Looks convincing to me!

  7. Thanks for your comments, it is really the first time that I try something like this, Think about trying after watching a video of de Mig Jimenez about paint rust.

  8. Love it! Great weathering and a really well presented diorama.

  9. Carmelo, hello! Thanks to being stationed at Ft. Knox (the old Home of [US] Armor) when I was a tank commander (& crewman) where there were MANY old tanks on the gunnery ranges used as targets, then again in Desert Storm, I've seen a LOT of derilect, old, unused tanks (plus blown-to-pieces tanks) and this model captures the 'abandoned' look perfectly.

    Outstanding!

  10. Very convincing. master Piece.
    Regards, Dirk / The Netherlands.
