Figures, I’d start a new project quickly…..

October 16, 2017 · in Figures · 9 · 1.4K

Ok another bad pun from Rob! This is one of Verlinden's excellent 120mm SS figures, this one being a fellow from the Ardennes counter offensive. He wears the M44 field jacket and late war boots with leggings. Most all of the times I have seen this figure done he wears the jacket in the "dot" pattern camouflage, but as these also were printed in oak leaf I decided to go with that pattern. Now to be fair, Verlinden has sculpted the jacket in the later version without shoulder board loops, and most if not all of these were in dot pattern but this is a minor niggle as you have to look very close to see they are missing, and also troops would remove them in the field due to their snagging on things. Oak Leaf is one of the harder SS patterns to paint and I used Michael Beavers excellent "Camouflage Uniforms of the Waffen SS" as my guide. If you have any interest in the subject this book is a must have. I show how I go about painting the pattern, not rocket science, but doing things in order do make it easier. More later Cheers folks!

  1. Excellent start, Rob...certainly looks good to ME (someone who doesn't play well with figure painting). Do you really drink a beer every time you sit at the bench or are those eclectic brands always there in the photo just to tease us? 🙂

  2. Thanks! No I don't have a beer every time I'm at the bench, Sundays and Thursdays of my "short" work week I have man cave time and have a brew while I build and then watch some TV.

  3. Looks like you have all the necessary ingredients there, Rob, looking forward to seeing how it progresses.

  4. You have to love a good pun, Rob. This project is looking fantastic; your face work is amazing.

  5. looking real good Rob, I look forward to seeing it when its done.

  6. Good lord John Wayne has joined the other side...that face looks exactly like the Duke. Before, the "Longest Day".

  7. Some nice paint work started there!

  8. Good grief, Rob! Unbelievable paint work, looks like the real thing!

  9. Very nice paintwork, can't wait to see this one finished!
