iModeler Awards – September

October 20, 2017 · in News · · 24 · 2.1K

Once again it's time for the editorial review of the last month's highlights. 107 new entries were posted to the Headlines in September, prompting no less than 1752 comments and 23444 individual article views.

All Headline contributions are included in our traditional monthly prize draw. We're awarding the Best in Show title to the entry that in the eyes of the jury represents the month's highlight in terms of modeling quality and presentation. We also allot a second award to a randomly chosen article to emphasize that all contributions to this site deserve recognition.

Please don't hesitate to join iModeler and take part in our next monthly roundup.

The jury this month were @editor, @aisak, @magnusf, @halvarvonflake, @rickard-malmborg and @raikisan.

iModeler Best in Show - September 2017

This month's jury award goes to Paul Carpenter's Wingnut Wings' Sopwith Snipe.

Paul's model caught our attention with its thoughtfully executed details - convincing wood effect on the propeller, cockade showing through a piece of fabric, the ribbing, paint flaking off the hot cowling.

Then there's that piece of torn fabric at the side of the fuselage - a detail that could be there just to show off some of the interior detail. But Paul skilfully turned it to a focal point of a little diorama, presenting a viewer with an additional intriguing story. What happened? Who are the guys beside the machine? It inspires curiosity, and makes us want to look back again and again, searching for clues in this story.

In all its simplicity, we think this is clever, sophisticated modeling. Well done.

But wait, there is more!

We are also awarding a prize as a token of appreciation to all our contributors. This is selected through an entirely random draw among all the entries of the month. This time, our lucky winner is Hongseob Choi and his 1/72 Roden Junkers D.1.

Oh, and one more thing...

We're particularly glad that both our award winners (and many honorable mentions) are new users at iModeler, which reminds us how lively and exciting this hobby is.

Speaking about the spirit of the hobby, I'd also like to go outside the usual format of the award announcemet and refer to one more model posted in September. Lloyd King's Zoukei-Mura 1/48 F-4J, built with one hand during the modeler's recovery from a serious disease. We were all moved by this story - thank you for sharing it.
