Review: Revell 1/32 P-51D Mustangkit preview

November 11, 2017 · in Reviews · · 5 · 8.1K

Revell's upcoming release of the P-51D in 32nd scale proves that Mustangs never get old. Due to be released before Christmas, it will be interesting to see how it compares to other manufacturer's efforts in the same scale.
The one-piece upper wing is notable, and there is plenty of detail to behold.

  1. The comparison will indeed be interesting, given the plethora of prior releases by top manufacturers.

  2. It looks real nice. Better than that ZM one I have partially built in my stash. I am wondering if there will be a filleted version coming out soon, if so, I will own two. Hopefully they wont be highly priced.

  3. None of the bad of the Tamiya kit - the bloody engine and the cowlings that don't fit or stay in position. And a price that will get you three for one Tamiya. What's not to like?

Interesting they're using a photo of Planes of Fame's P-51D, the oldest civil-owned/continuously licensed (since 1957) P-51 in the world.

  4. The parts break down is interesting. I like what they've done with the wing and main spar arrangement. The main gear door panels did the interior pieces have panel lines. I thought they were stamped and continuous? I know the wind screen has part of the cowling molded into it. A definite plus. The wheels ...Brett Green in his build he replaced them with after market. I wonder if they can let these kits go for 23-25.00 dollars. Did someone come out to California from Revell and kick some tires?
