P-39 Airacobra

December 20, 2017 · in Aviation · · 13 · 2.4K

Hi, finished this just in time for Christmas, this is the ubiquitous P-39Q/N , could have been better, could have been worse. I had some fight with the canopy, because i used replacement vac one from CMK set, and this was in fact my first time to use vac canopy, boy! hard to get it right. I apologise for the poor quality of photos, and cloudy day is only a minor reason for that, have to get a better camera, but there you have it. Colours are Revell throughout, which is not my usual choice, but i decided to give them a go. Kit is rather fine but has some minor errors, and the decals are definitely the worse part of the kit, but i didn´t have any replacements so had to use them. Cheers till another post from yours truly, lazy Vedran, and Merry Christmas to all, and that stuff, drink and model responsibly.

  1. You did a fine job ! Merry Christmas my friend.

  2. A nice looking Aircobra - I love that scheme and finished one myself this year - an old Airfix/MPC kit. You did a very nice job on this one, and your vac canopy looks great! I don't like vac canopies and only use them when I have to.

  3. Great stuff Vedran, lovely build! Interesting with Revell paints - the main colour looks very good. Happy Christmas - responsible drinking is easy - it is just the modelling I can't control!

  4. Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to you, Vedran.

I love the look of the white-tail P-39s. Yours looks great!

  5. Excellent work, sir...very nice job indeed.

  6. Nicely done Vedran, looks good.

  7. Looks good Vedran, another nice little plane to add to your collection.

  8. Thanks guys, and happy holidays to all.

  9. Nice work on the Airacobra Vedran.

  10. Vedran, one of of this pilots ( Cpt. Shomo) Airacobra tac recce A/C is on display at a museum on the lakefront at Buffalo, New York. When they transitioned to Mustangs from P-39s, they just pushed them off the runway into the bush. It was recovered from there. and though repainted, it is beat up.

Yours looks fine. You could actually beat ti up, and you'd be right. I was pleased to see "truth in advertising" when i saw it there. Operational aircraft are many things, pretty a'int one of them.

The museum is worth visitng, DD USS The Sullivans and the AA guided missile cruiser Springfield (Revell fans, take note) are also there.

    • Thanks for info, i am more worried about the upper color, some sources show it as a darker olive, while others as a lighter shade olive or khaki, black and white photos on the net don´t show much. As for the beat up appearance, lot of airacobras on the photos over the net looked realy clean and sleek to me, not much chipping of the color, very little soot or grime, i guess i´ll never know the truth, hah.
