Year in review 2017

December 20, 2017 · in Aviation · · 12 · 1.6K

So here is my review of 2017.

But first I like to wish you all a wonderful Christmas and all the best wishes for 2018.

Quite some variation over 2017 which included 2 restored models also.

The new toolings from Airfix are fantastic and more will follow to build over 2018 I'm sure.

The Boulton-Paul Defiant and Hawker Typhoon Ib are build from these new toolings. Two older Airfix kits were the 1/48 scale Hawker Hurricane which I finished this year after I started it some 4 years ago. The Mosquito Night fighter in 1/72 scale is another Airfix oldie which turned out well, but I think Airfix would make a lot of people happy with a new tooling. Italeri kits in 1/72 were build also. The Canadian CH146 Griffon was finished this year after starting some 5 years ago. The Harrier GR.3 you have not seen before in my updates, but was also build in between this year. Turned out nice with a little extra work. And offcourse the "Big Cat" Jaguar as part of the GB Year of the Cat. From Hobby Boss came the Sikorsky H34 in 1/72 scale from the French Navy in striking blue and yellow. ICM in 1/72 scale supplied the ZiL 131 truck which I have build as a civilian mobile workshop in typical Russian blue.

Restored models are the 1/72 Kamov Ka29 Helix from Italeri (Zvesda). Had a lot of damage after a heavy object fallen into the cabinet. Well back in the collection again. Something special to work on was the 4-axle Foden Haulmaster in 1/72 scale from Keilcraft. I've build this model some 30 years ago and it had fallen back to it's parts. I decided to bring it back to life, did some touch-up work and made a tarpaulin as I saw on a original picture. It is a very basic model but the shape is quite good.

Still on the workbench at this moment are a Heller Mirage 3R, a Revell Mirage 2000C for the Year of the Cat GB, the Stuka for the North Africa GB as is the Macchi MC.202.

My stash grew also this year to some 200+ boxes, so plenty to choose from.

Final words to thank all of you on iModeler for all your inspirational work, tips and ideas, but above all the international friendships here on iModeler. Unfortunately I'm not allways able to react on all topics but I read as much as I can, believe me.

Let's keep on building. Cheers, Ferry.
