iModeler has changed – here’s what’s new

February 7, 2018 · in News · 59 · 2.2K

Today we are excited to introduce the largest iModeler update ever. For the last six months we have been working like crazy to pull all of this together, and here it is – the iModeler 2.2.

This upgrade is the fruit of our most significant development effort to date. As well as a fresh new design, we have added new layers of user-friendliness, fixed dozens of bugs and completely rethought the internal workings of the site to make room for the things to follow. Oh, and should I mention some fundamental performance upgrades!

In other words, everything will look a bit nicer, work a tad better and be smoother to use, all without sacrificing the simplicity which is this site's hallmark.

The good news is that most of it will feel very familiar. For a short guide to our new features, browse through the images below!

  1. Wow, it looks fantastic, thanks for all the hard work you guys have put in to update this great site.

  2. This looks and works fantastic! Thank you guys for all the hours you've put in to get it done.

  3. Looks like new. Great work and effort guys.

  4. If you'd asked me I'd have said, "please don't change anything!" - but having tried a few run throughs, the cummunity is even better.

    Huge thanks and well done!

    • David, I'm glad you like it but we were also careful to keep things in their usual places - just because the old one wasn't that bad either 🙂

  5. Just when I was gettin' used to the site...now I gotta start all over. 🙁
Only kiddin', guys...looks pretty nice. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm goin' to experiment, navigate and learn.

  6. Now it's even better! I like the new design, and look&feel.

  7. I may have missed this, but can you explain the 'karma' changes?

  8. Ditto all the above - looks great!

  9. Like MANY of us here, I'm well over 65 years of age, but I have to admit that the old format was pretty easy to work with, ESPECIALLY for those of us who have had to teach themselves at an older age HOW to work these confuser contraptions used in the "Age of Computers."

The "New & Improved" iModeler 2.2 looks great and should be even easier to navigate!
(Although this site wasn't intended for me specifically, this is a great 30th Anniversary "present" for my wife and myself.)

Thanks to Martin and all the others who manage this site for anyone who wants to be here!
    TWO thumbs up! 🙂

  10. I wish I could remember all the folks who manage this site, but Martin (and now) Johanes are the only names I know. Thanks, guys!

    • Add Boris and you've got all the staff listed, and then we have also Magnus, Anders, Rickard in the monthly jury panel :). Thank you back!

  11. Sorry - Johannes is the correct spelling

    Duh!

    • Never mind, Jeff.
Normallly phones with English language setting complete to Johannesburg when you start typing Johann...
A typical mail to me starts with “Hello Johannesburg, how are you?’

  12. Love this new look. Just another observation, though, there seems a glitch with the 'edit' facility. When you try to edit a post it gets stuck in a loop.

  13. Man this is so cool, I love it, looks good, works great. Well done Martin and team. I am now officially an addict.

  14. Thank you to the iModeler team for all your hard work.

  15. Well done Martin and the team for making the best even better! Two thumbs up from me!

  16. Thanks iModeler team. This is a very cool update. Look forward to growing the community.

  17. Thanks everyone for all the good feedback - much appreciated!

  18. Making an amazing site even more welcoming. Already know for it's simplicity in using the various tools. Now more so. Can't wait to post my first article using the new stuff. Thanks Martin for making it even more fun to be on Imodeler.

  19. Certainly worked easy when I just added a new article.

  20. It's perfect, except for the spelling, modeller and modelling both have two "l"s for goodness sake, please forget what that man Webster may have said!

  21. I must try out the new stuffs fast 😀 Thanks Guys!

  22. I really like the new look. I'll try out the ease of use when I post a new kit review soon. Thanks again Martin, for everything you and your staff do for us. This is the best website hands down !

    • Still unable to edit any of my posts – seems to have no prompt to ‘save changes’ – I make the changes and it just defaults to the first post in the article.

I have had the same problem as David. Otherwise it seems to be working fine. I will wait a few days before posting my new kit review just to be safe.

      • Thanks guys for working out the bugs. I was able to post my kit review article on the new ICM Do-17Z and it went extremely well. The edit function is now working properly, and I was able to load all 50 photos at once, using my smart phone. This was something I could not do before, and is a definite improvement. Thanks again for all that you do for us. You guys rock !

  23. Really liking the 2.2 version. The word Elegant comes to mind. Great work, thank you!

    • Thank you, Scott. Our long-term goal is making our community-driven site look as nice or better than any professional magazine, digital or paper. We really believe in crowdsourced and think we're on our way now 🙂

  24. Thank you for 2.2 version. It looks smart, efficient.

  25. The best just got better!
Thank you for all the hard work that goes into it. I think what you have created with imodeler is a totally unique experience. I'd say that modelling is just one half of the hobby, and imodeler is the other fifty percent.
I don't know anyone at all in the real world who has any interest in modelling. If it wasn't for being able to share my work on here and take inspiration from others, then I don't think I would be building models.

    • Richard, yes, I have only ever met so many modelers in my local community, but here's where the web really makes a difference. After our 4 years at iModeler, I have learned to know so many great people from many different parts of the World - and that's too due to my modeling interest. Quite a difference, isn't it?

  26. I am new member here, recently I saw imodeler on Facebook and I decided to open my profile here. And I am very glad I did it! This is one awesome place for modelers and now with this upgrade it is even better! Great job guys! ?

  27. Good Job guys!

  28. Hi, I do not see a single group after updating iModeler. There were two before the update, and now one is missing

  29. Ok everyone. We're tremendously happy for such a positive feedback, thanks.

As for the outstanding bugs mentioned, we're in the process of fixing them and making some additional touch-ups which should take a few more days. I will be notifying you when these fixes are deployed.
