1/48 Airfix Hurricane Mk1 (RAAF)

March 11, 2018 · in Aviation · · 12 · 2.3K

Australia received one Mk1 for testing here in Australia and it went through several paint schemes, including a sharp looking silver paint job. I choose the foliage green scheme for something different, since most aircraft I build have natural metal schemes anyway! In used the new kit and not too bad a kit. I have several more for other projects and whilst I have not built Hasegawa's kit as yet, I would rate this one quite highly.

The decals are from Novascale, a local decal producer who has picked up the rights to reprint most of the old Aussie Decals line. I had no trouble using them, though the roundels are from the Eduard Aussie Eight decals sheet as it has quite a few extra roundels for projects like this one.

Happy Modelling

  1. Nice clean build, Darren - AND beautiful. Nice work(s) you've posted.

  2. Great job Darren - I'm now very interested in what you used for Foliage Green! It looks very good indeed!

I had never looked at your profile so didn't know you were in Australia. I'm currently battening down the hatches before the Commonwealth Games!

  3. Nice to see an unusual dress code for the Hurricane. Can I ask what you finished her with, you have a really lovely matt sheen (looks great on my iPad).

  4. It hasn't stopped here for 5 or 6 days - not that I am complaining too much! We haven't had it as bad as others.

  5. Not my favourite colour scheme for a Hurricane, but, again, very neat work.

  6. Nice Hurricane. I’m a fan of foliage green/blue schemes. I did a P-40 in these colors last year and plan to do one of my Eduard Spitfire VIIIs in that scheme as well.

  7. very nice clean build. Like the different scheme.

  8. Sharp, clean build. There is something about those roundels that I really like - going to have to build more of my Aussie stash soon...

  9. Great Hurricane, Darren. I especially like the paint scheme as I've never seen it quite like that before now. Your painting and finishing are superb!
