Hasegawa 1/48 Ju-87B-2 Stuka N. Afrika

June 3, 2018 · in Aviation · · 13 · 3.4K

This is a kit I built about 15 years ago, and has been languishing on the shelf ever since. One of the early builds with no WIP . Also suffered some damage and lost pieces on a move a few years ago. But I did find a couple of images I took when I first finished it around 2003. When it was still intact with the rear stab braces and the original tail wheel.

.

So fresh that I haven't installed the exhaust manifolds yet, if any one noticed. I had always intended to build this as a B-2 that served in N. Africa, but wanted a scheme other than what was in the box. So I found a sheet, not Aeromaster, but from Eagle Cals which was part of Aeromaster I believe. I can't find the left over sheet to give you the correct decal set number. What was different from the norm it was not a typical DAK scheme of RLM 79/RLM 80 over RLM 65. All Stukas were delivered from the factory RLM 70 Dunkel Green/RLM 71 Schwarz Grun over RLM 65 Licht Blau. They were repainted in the field, in this case Italian colors were used instead of RLM. Since I didn't have any Italian colors at the time I mixed the Tan and used an Olive green over the RLM 65. The only other aftermarket is Moskit exhaust manifolds. The scheme as applied is not a normal Luftwaffe set scheme that was typical. So it was applied pretty much whoever had the gun as shown. The new tail wheel is from the Tamiya Beaufighter, as I have been searching for one for awhile. And as I was working on the Beau I noticed that Tamiya supplied two type of tail wheels with the kit. So I modified the unused tail wheel and attached it to the and wallah back on all threes again. So thats when I decided to take some images and post them here along with her "short legged" Tamiya Fw190-F8 desert brethren. I have been wanting to pick up some more Stukas, from and the new Airfix kits to compliment this one some day soon. So hoping to pick some up down the road. Thanks for viewing .

  1. This is a good looking Ju-87 Chuck. Now there are some out there that say the Stuka is ugly, and it might be, but I personally like them... It looks fantastic parked next to your short legged FW. I have a 1/32 Revell Ju-87 that was built many , many years ago, and some day I want to give it a face lift. The desert camo version is the best look for the Stuka in my opinion.
Here's a photo I found online from the "Life" magazine photographers during the War. It shows what's left of a desert Ju-87 in a Luftwaffe scrap yard now occupied by the Allies. I am fairly certain this is in Tunisia.

    Hope you like it.

    Well done my friend.

    • Hi Louis, thank you, and yes I remember that 32nd scale Revell kit, another want but never got kit back in the day. It also had the snake scheme that was an eye catcher as well on the box cover. An interesting pick on that Luftwaffe salvage yard. Pre Davis-Monthan Arizona.

  2. Decent lookin' build right there, Chuck...pretty good work IMO. 🙂

  3. Big ‘ole bird in 1/48. Nice one.

  4. Thanks Rob, it actually was a good sized dive bomber. Slow as molasses though.

  5. Really nice Stuka. You should build the new 1/48 Airfix kit. I heard it is an excellent build.

  6. Paul, thanks, that is the plan as mentioned in the text, add to the stash an Airfix Stuka, couple of more Hasegawa's. As well some other new Airfix kits as well. Need to catch up on obtaining some more.

  7. Looks very nice!

  8. Thanks Greg, appreciate that.

  9. A great looking mean machine! As is the 190.

  10. Beautiful, Ju-87, Chuck! I'm with Louis, in that it's a good looking aircraft, despite rumours to the contrary. I especially like the 2 "doubles" pictures. Outstanding!
