B-58 Hustler -1/72 Italeri

Hello friends, after a year of dedication, I finished what I consider to be my most challenging assembly until now, where I applied all the knowledge I have. This classic cold war bomber, the , on the scale from , is a good kit, with reasonable fittings requiring little puty, and rescribing a few panel lines. The painting, with several metallic schemes, is very challenging; shiny black polyurethane base, and then the panels are masked and painted separately with the desired tone: stainless steel, aluminum, steel, titanium, etc ... It demanded many hours to accentuate the panel lines with black oil wash , and weathering ... I was pleased with the result, just and a little frustrating the humbrol varnish applied on the fuselage that killed the metal effect a little bit. In the engines, and in the ventral tank, I used Mr. Hobby's varnish, which was infinitely superior, not altering the metallic effect. Hope you enjoy it.

  1. Beautifully done NMF on this, my friend...looks great!

  2. A beautiful model. Great finishes!

  3. A rare reproduction of one of the most beautiful jets of the cold war era.
You made an excellent work with NMF, are the metal paints Alclad2?
Do not worry about the "killed a bit" shine, after all it is a correct "weathering effect": the metals loose their shine after being exposed to atmospheric agents and if you look at the photographs of the real thing, you can notice that the "shine" of b-58 was not so pronounced, as usually depicted.

  4. I think Peter is dead right, the overall effect of the 'deadening' of the shine may have increased the 'reality quotient' of the aircraft. That said, I know how frustrating it is not to replicate the image you had in your head.

Sounds like you pushed your skills in this one. Hugely impressive.

  5. NMF looks good, great job!

  6. Beautiful job on an iconic Cold War bomber. I think the finish came out exceptionally well, I like it.

  7. Looks great! I'm in a similar neverending project with the Monogram Hustler - I hope I'll have as much willpower to finish as You have. Beautiful and great MNF!

  8. Very nice work. The metal finish is spot on. A real mach 2 baby to cherish! Kudos!

  9. Awesome NMF by far! Really knocked it out of the park. Great job with a tough subject. I did not realize this model existed from Italeri. I think I need to build it. Fantastic.

  10. Beautiful build on a beautiful aircraft!

  11. Beautiful finish on a beautiful B-58. The Italeri kit is one I have totally forgot existed. The more well known Monogram 48th kit I have. You did very well on this one. Thanks for sharing.

  12. Excellent - love the NMF work, especially on the engines. I have the Testor boxing of this kit, and will use your (and Gabor's - if he gets it finished...) model as reference! I agree with knocking down the shine a bit - looks more realistic to me.

Great finish on this Eduardo. The tiny wheels alone would put me off I had enough trouble doing them in 1/48!.

  14. Your paint work is superb. This looks highly realistic. I really like your result.

  15. Wow! This is beautiful, Eduardo! To me this is the most beautiful jet ever made ... as long as the big bomb-looking assembly is left off! Ha! But it is great looking even with it. Your version of it is superb. The various shades and shines really add to the realism.

    Bravo!

  16. Hello Eduardo,
Outstanding modeling. I enjoyed the pics showing all the details..
    Regards, Dirk

  17. Stunning build mate! The metal finish is fantastic. This is an aircraft I know little about actually... Maybe I should do some YouTube research!

  18. STUNNING ! This is definitely a fine tribute to one of the best looking bombers of the Cold War. It was SAC's golden bullet!

  19. Thank you friends for the words and opinions. This shows I'm on the right way, and improving every kit. Dedication, research and patience, is the key...

  20. Great model! Very good work with masks.

  21. Very nice work, Eduardo! I would use a slightly lighter-tone wash, not black, but that's just my opinion and it doesn't detract fromy our work!

  22. great job - that is such a great looking aircraft
