This is the next build in my Hiryu vs Yorktown collection and it makes #4 here in the Midway Group Build.

I'm building the New Airfix A6M2b and the TechMod decal set shown to arrive at a "generic" Hiryu Zero. I will modify the decals so that the aircraft have a single blue fuselage band and

"BI" for the tail code. I realize that there is considerable debate as to wheather on not the Hiryu's aircraft were repainted when she was designated the flagship of CarDiv 2. However it also appears to be general agreement that Lt Tomonaga's aircraft had a single blue band. So all the Hiryu a/c I'm building will have the single band. They're never going to sit on a contest table so I think I can stand the heat, lol.

Here are a few initial construction photos, every thing is stock except for the instrument panel which is by Yahu. All I can say about that is by the time I got it to stay where it was supposed to be, I had used stronger language than Yahoo.

Excellent start Rick. Looks like your B5N Kate will have a fighter escort now. Thanks for starting another build thread. I'll keep watching this one with anticipation.

    Hi Louis.
Actually this Zero is representing the Hiryu's Combat Air Patrol that along with fighters from the Soryu attacked VT-3. It will be paired with my TBD.

Progress on the Zero, went together without to much fuss. Needed a bit of filler on both wing roots but that could just be me. I used some of my last bottle of Floquil Aged Concrete for my topcoat. I think it gives a good "scale" effect of "J3", or whatever the current name of "that color" is, lol.

Wow dude ! This Zero is really coming out nicely. The aged concrete color looks very good as a representative of J-3 or "ameiro" or whatever they call it. Please keep us posted on your progress.

Looks great my friend. I'll be back to see how it comes together. Thanks again buddy.
