Hasegawa 1:48 P-40N Warhawk

November 27, 2012 · in Aviation · · 12 · 3.6K

I always liked the P-40N, it's my favorite of the whole / family and I always wanted to do white-tailed New Guinea warrior.

Well, here it is, my latest finished build, 1:48 P-40N from .

The kit is beautifully detailed, but a bit over-engineered, due to Hasegawa wanting to make the most out of the molds.

It was an enjoyable build, although the kit fought me all the way, especially around the fuselage behind the cockpit. A few nasty seams and a lot of putty-sand-repeat 🙂

I added some photo-etched seat belts, brake fluid lines on the main landing gear, a scratched rear view mirror and the whip antenna.

Paints are Humbrol enamel and gloss/matt coats are Gunze.

I used the kit decals, which behaved nicely with a little help from Micro Sol. Weathering and chipping was done with pastels and light gray pencil.

And here it is, a combat proven warrior from the South Pacific.

  1. One of the better P-40's I've seen done. Nice work on the belly, btw.

  2. Nice work. The Hasegawa P-40s are indeed "fiddly," but the result if one takes care is the best P-40s in 1/48 (or 1/32). I gave you a 10 for your finishing.

  3. Beautiful build! THANK YOU for turning it over to show us the underside! I don't know why that means so much to me except for sculptor training in art college that has made me think of a sculpture as an object you need to appreciate all the way around- I feel the same way about kits- look that whole bad boy over- its worth it.

  4. Thanx. You're right, very few modellers show the underside of their models.
For me, it's as interesting as the rest of the model.

  5. An absolutely stunning build. I agree with Tom, this is a '10'!

  6. stunning piece

  7. Nick,
I somehow missed this article so allow me to belatedly tell you that I absolutely love what you have done here. I also think the "N" is the best looking of all the P-40's and your model is a master compliment to the "N".
    Stunning workmanship.

  8. Thank you Frank, I appreciate it.

  9. Hi Nikola, one of the best Warhawks i have seen so far, very well done
You captured the look of the more faded fabric areas very well.
The same fitting problems i have discovered on my Hasegawa Warhawks
