1/32 Pacific Coast Models Hurricane Mk.I

December 8, 2012 · in Aviation · · 6 · 2.6K

This was built alongside the Carbury shown previously. It has a backdated Grey Matter cockpit and wheels, RB Productions Sutton Harness, scratchbuilt cockpit armor, windscreen mating surfaces were modified to correct the angle of the windscreen, and a dental pick was used to hollow out the clearance between the tailwheel and yoke.

Upper side of resin wheel well was ground down very thin and rounded off on all corners, then the wing parts were thinned and tabs placed along the fuselage filet mating surface in order to establish proper dihedral and camber at the wing roots. Decals from the kit, paints are Floquil Military Flats.

The model represents a machine flown by Battle Of Britain triple ace Flt.Lt. Archibald McKellar. This aircraft has been reported to have been the deadliest RAF fighter of the Battle Of Britain period, after serving as McKellar's mount it was repaired and transferred to the Polish Squadrons- apparently accruing some 40 victories prior to being struck off charge.

I've included an "adversaries portrait" of it in company with it's arch nemesis from .
