1/48 Tamiya Me-262 Schwalbe

December 6, 2012 · in Aviation · · 8 · 2.7K

Still probably the best kit of this bird in quarter scale, with Aires detail set. I did suffer a bit of "going into details too much" with this one, but i think the result is more than satisfying.

There aren't any problems mating resin with plastic parts, just a lot of patience and work.

Painted with Mr.Color paints - they are probably the best paints around, weathered with AK oils and pigmets. Mr. Color satin varnish was used to complete the model. Certainly not the last schwalbe that i will ever made, but next time I will build it straight OOB... ok, with extra seatbelts maybe... and...

  1. Stunning replica, Grega! Excellent work on all the enhancements, your progress photos demonstrate your care and competency in measuring, cutting, and test-fitting. The finished model certainly does not betray any of the modifications you performed on the kit and the result is a symphony of color and detail that is both inspiring and astounding. Bravo!

  2. I'll agree with Erik. I especially like the "clean" style of your detailing and painting, which holds up well for close inspection and makes the completed model look so damn attractive. Absolutely inspiring!

  3. I must concur with Erik (and then some...wow) - but that engine is amazing. Is that part of the kit itself, a resin 'extra" or a little of both with much additional detail added by yourself..? I've never seen such work on an engine in that scale (32nd, yes, but not 48th - at least I don't recall seeing anything like that recently). You are to be commended for a brilliant job, sir.

  4. Excelent Schwalbe Grega !

  5. Thank you for comments. The engine itself is a part of Aires set, 6-resin parts to be exact. I added wires according to photographs I took at Kbely air museum in Prague. I used lead and copper wires - form 0.2 to 0.8 mm.
If you would like to add an engine to your me-262, quickboost makes a great copy casted from a single piece of resin.

I have to admit that after the photos were taken, I've noticed that I've placed one decal (white panther) in wrong way. I fixed that so it faces to the right way, but I didn't set up my photo booth to take some photos.

  6. Wow! Incredibly well done Grega! Bravo! That's as nice a 1/48 scale model as I've ever seen. Your attention to detail is simply breath-taking. Thanks for sharing this art with us mere mortals.

  7. Grega, I agree, the Tamiya Me 262 kit is probably the best in the 1/48th range. It is an absolute pleasure to build. You did an awesome job with the merging of the resin to the plastic. It really looks nice.

  8. I like it a lot! Fantastic model of one of my favourite aircraft. The deployed slats and flaps add a lot to the attraction. Painting is top-notch!

    Regards
