Hasegawa 1/48 AU-1

February 7, 2013 · in Aviation · · 9 · 2.3K

Done with the Victory Decals sheet to create the airplane flown by Col. John Bolt, one of the original VMF-214 pilots (If you ever wanted to hear the real story of Pappy Boyington, as opposed to Pappy's drunken baloney, you should have heard what he had to say about the "Black Sheep." Sort of like what Charles Older of the AVG told me about flying cross-country with Boyington : "stick to your own map" - in a dismissive tone.) when he headed up Marine aviation at Quantico. Kind of interesting to see an old WW2 airplane in the then-new Light Gull Grey/Gloss White scheme.

reminds me of the "old birds" we had at the Olathe Naval Air Station, Olathe,
Ks in the late 50's .. I can still hear the sounds of them when they start up .. LOVE the weathering effect of this one ..they had a bad problem of oil everywhere ... EXCELLENT job ! Ray B. Hall USMC

The difference in markings was that our squadron, VMF 215, had a big K on the tail !
