And now a floaty thing…

March 4, 2013 · in Ships · · 11 · 1.7K

... My first effort at 1/35 ships, the Z-25 Zerstorer (hmmm... Bf 110s... a floaty destroyer... seems to be a theme developing) ;).

Anyway, here it is. Used the excellent Master brass gun barrels, chiseled off the molded anchor chains & replaced 'em with Detail Associates 20/inch blackened chain (from my very dark HO railroading past... shhhh... don't tell anyone), added Flyhawk generic DKM railings. Paints are all W.E. M. (great enamel paints and super company to deal with-Mr. John Snyder even advised me what colors to use... outstanding service!). Tried a laser-cut paper deck from ScaleDecks for the wood portions but the fit was rubbish... painted Tamiya Deck Tan & tarted it up with artists oils. Cherry base & brass pedestals from Blue Jacket.

Good grief... what's next?... a 1/24 CAR?! Hep me, hep me... Uhh...my name is Stan and I'm a plasti-holic...

  1. DOH! that's 1/35-ZERO!... If it were 1/35th I think I'd have to add a room or two... 😉

  2. Afraid not, there are no cars named "Destroyer" that I know of. Do you rent out the trained spider you used for the rigging?

  3. Damn good work sir! My lowly Alabama pales in comparison!

  4. Very nice, I am going to start Dragon's USS Livermore kit soon, I hope it turns out as well as your Zerstorer did, it is inspiring!

  5. I have a [very] few "floaty things", but I tend to shy away from anything with rigging and/or a multitude of PE - call me lazy. I've posted my "floaty things" here on iModeler and they can be seen my searching 'my stuff'.
Yours looks like a stellar effort, Stan and I'll start the ball ...er...'stars' rolling with a well-deserved ten.

  6. Stan: really nice. It inspires me to pull out my kit of this ship and do it.
Trumpeter is bringing out USS Indianapolis next month. I am definitely getting it.

Gave you another 10 for this.

  7. It's a 10! Cool ship.

  8. Thanks for the kind words guys. Never had much interest in doing a ship until I saw this one. The combination of the one double gun turret forward, two singles aft and the really interesting scalloped stern hooked me. A good kit too... took a long time and I struggled a bit, but that's just me... (on every build... I can get bogged down with a Tamiya Fw 190) 😉

  9. Beautiful job Stan. Wow...
