General Doolittle's Ride

March 31, 2013 · in Aviation · · 2 · 1.3K

1/32nd Williams Brothers kit of the Gee Bee. Built many years ago. Painted by "rattle can".
Scallops were laid out with homemade stencils. Pinstripes were done using a french curve & draftsman's pen.
Typical WB kit. Bit of a challenge but can turn out OK. This kit is currently available.

  1. Al... Nice looking GeeBee. I have that same WB kit about 3/4 finished. I used the Cutting Edge masks to do the scallops and pin striping, and was surprised to learn that they were dark blue rather than black. I sent away to England for some air foil shaped wires which took several months to arrive. Seeing how nice yours has turned out I will want to re-engage to that project soon. The Fantasy in Flight Museum here in Florida has replicas of several of the WB kits in flying condition.

  2. That's a very nice GeeBee! I have the old Testors kit in 1/48 but the paint work has spooked me so far. I'd love to give it a go someday and I hope mine might turn out as well as yours has. Great job!
