It's another 1:48 scale Otaki F6F-3, "Hellcat"

Hey folks,

This is one of my very early efforts at building a model seriously.
does make a really nice , even for it's age. With all the posts of some of these older models, it kind of makes me want to do a little refurbishing to schmaltz her up a tad...
I'm wondering if the True Details kit will fit in this one?

  1. 1) Schmaltz (informal) NOUN exaggerated sentimentalism, as in music or soap operas
2)Schmaltz fat or grease especially of a chicken

I would not suggest schmaltzing it up. Maybe spruce it up? Looks OK the way it is. Leave it alone.

  2. Another Otaki/Arri club member! Nicely done too.

I used the True Details resin cockpit for my build (a couple of pages back), as I remember it fit without much difficulty.

    • Do you remember if it was designed for the Otaki kit or a different kit? I have one for the Hasegawa kit and was wondering if it would work.

      • Don't know if the TD cockpit is made for the Otaki kit (it's old enough that I think the first ones were) but the kits are close enough between Otaki and Hasegawa that you'll have no trouble. Be sure to get the Squadron/Falcon vac canopy.

        • Thanks Tom, I was hoping it was gonna work that way.
I have a Squadron canopy for the Otaki kit too I found WAY back in the stash. I have been organizing and listing everything into a database so I know what I have and where it is.
Now to clean off the "Shelf of Doom"...
          Someday...

      • OOOps, sorry, forgot that part didn't I? I used the TD cockpit designed for the Hasegawa kit. As Tom says below, it fits the Otaki kit very well, I also used a Squadron vac canopy. Be sure to get the correct one as there are some differences in the windshield between early and late Hellcats

        • I got you Eric, thanks for the intput.
I know about the canopy thing and I even have a squadron set for the Otaki kit! I figure some stretched sprue exhaust tubes and a little work on the engine and I should be good to go.
          Thanks again!
