WIP – Monogram A-26C Invader

May 29, 2013 · in Aviation · · 6 · 2.2K

Here's the latest project from the Mexican Skunk Works, deep in the swamps of southeast Texas. A-26C. Started building this one about 11 years ago. It sat partially assembled on the workbench while I built a bunch of RC models around it, until I got the itch to get back into plastic modeling. Decals are from an Aeromaster sheet called "Marauding Invaders" (part 3, I think) that I found on a Squadron sale promotion. It was the kick I needed to finish this one. The checkerboards are for a recon unit, but the airplane was already built and I wasn't about to rip the turret and bomb bay out of it. Besides, I Iike the color it adds to the airplane.

Need to finish the decals, weathering and get the landing gear and props on, and she'll be done. I think I'm going to mount this one on some kind of an airfield base.

  1. Looks good so far, Jaime...almost there. Nice work.

  2. Well done on the all black scheme.

  3. Thanks, everyone. It's been interesting getting back into the hobby after all these years off. Have had a lot of help from friends who brought me up to speed on all the new stuff that has come up since I did this last. It sure has been fun!

  4. that is absolutely stunning...and i love those checks

  5. An update on the A-26 - she's pretty much finished now, just haven't had time to take pictures. The landing gear install was a pain - the mounting pins for the nose gear were too short to fit the lugs, so I modified the whole thing with a piece of carbon rod left over from one of my RC models. The main gear struts wouldn't fit because the gear doors, which you have to install before the nacelles are assembled, made the opening too narrow to get the struts in. Those took an hour, three kinds of glue and a lot of colorful four letter metaphors to get in place. Still need to make a base for her...
