Another 1/48 Hasegawa Fw-190A-4

June 5, 2013 · in Aviation · · 6 · 2.3K

Another project from the stash of the modeler's estate sale. This is what happens if you fail in your assignment to build everything in your stash: your wife puts them in the estate sale cheap and somebody like me comes along and gets to have all the fun. 🙂

Model is basically OOB. I used Eduard seat belts and Lifelike Decals "Fw-190 No.2", to do the Fw-190A-4 flown by Hauptmann Siegfried Schnell of 4./JG 2 in spring/summer 1943. Schnell eventually scored 90 victories on the Channel Front by the end of January 1944, including 12 B-17s, making him the #11 Luftwaffe experte on the Channel Front, and one of the leading bomber-killers. He scored three more in February 1944 after being transferred to the Eastern Front with JG 54, before being shot down 10 days after his arrival.

  1. Tom, I just love the "warlike" look these German machines have, and you've captured it perfectly!

  2. Tom, you just keep churning out an amazing number of wonderfully crisp clean build, I am impressed! Nicely done

    • Churned. Past tense. Many of these have been done over the past ten years. I have been accused of being a "modeling machine" but never a super high-speed one. 🙂

  3. lovely...you must have an attic full of models or a museum...you were very prolific over at the other place

    • Many of these are from "the other place" since I can put up more photos here, so my "prolific-ness" is a matter of still having the photos in the files.

And yes, it helps to be able to take these things out to Planes of Fame and let them worry about shelving them. 🙂
