How I started counting rivets….

May 25, 2013 · in Aviation · · 14 · 2.2K

I really like natural metal schemes and became a big fan of Allclad paint because of their color range and drying time. Then one day I ran across Mike Grant's website and saw he was offering rivets as a decal sheet. I hadn't had much luck with the rivet tools, so I thought I'd give them a try. This is the first project I built just to see how they worked, and I have since become a good customer for this product. The procedure can get tedious at times, and yes I have literally counted rivets occasionally, but I like the results.

  1. Jack this is beautiful the over all build is outstanding the rivets just take up to the next level where do you get them gotta try these on my yf-12 build

  2. Steven... You can go to Mike's web page at: http://www.mikegrantdecals.com/Page1.html

  3. Very very impressive. One of my favorite aircraft.
    Tell us about the kit.

  4. Al...To be honest, I don't remember much about the kit. It was probably a Tamyia or Hasegawa offering. I was just interested in trying out the rivets, and the Sabre Jet is one of my favorite subjects that has a lot of different schemes. I do not recall having any difficulties during construction. I'd like to blame my lack of memory on my age, but I've always forgotten much of the build details once I've moved on to another project, and I never got into the habit of making notes. I do sometimes take in progress construction photos if I am going to do a build article however.

  5. Really nice job on the Sabre, Jack...I'll have to check out those decals you mentioned.

  6. That's really well done Jack! One of the best NMF jobs I've ever seen.

  10. Very nice Sabre, Jack!
Am I wrong or have I seen this one in FSM too, perhaps in the reader gallery?

    outstanding jack! great finish.

  12. Jack,
What a magnificent job you did on this model. You have made this look almost real. The F-86 was one of the last of the " true pilot" airplanes. I have had one started for a long time and seeing yours makes me want to dust it off and try to do at least half as well as you did with this one. Beautiful...

  13. Thanks guys, I'm glad you liked it. All this positive feed back is just going to encourage me to do more natural metal schemes.
