Hobbycraft 1/48 P-59 Airacomet
Hobbycraft has produced the only 1/48 kit of this historic aircraft, that I'm aware of. It's a nice, simple, basic kit, which I found a little pricey, considering what was included, which was not much. Still, I felt the P-59 was a "must have" that filled an important gap in my 1/48 collection. I did an OOB build. I don't know if it was me, the simplicity of the kit, the non-combat history, but I found it hard to maintain my enthusiasim, and just wanted it done, and, I'm afraid it shows. I'm happier with it now, on the shelf. Considering it's time period, it would easily lend itself to a few interesting "what if's". If the price was right, I'd be tempted.
Really a shame that there isn't a quality kit of this out there-nice job on a real mud fence.
With the exception of their Bf 109 kits, I have always had a soft spot for Hobbycraft kits. Not too many parts, easy to go together, and build up into some reasonable replicas. Hobbycraft also manufactures some interesting subjects, such as your P-59. Nice job on this one, Joe.
i like hobbycraft too...not all ways correct which i don't need but they just turn out looking good in the right hands...nice to see this rare one
I did one one of these a while back, but it didn't have any guns in the nose that I remember. I didn't think it was a HobbyCraft...I could be wrong, though (I thought I was wrong once before, but I was mistaken)...:)
If there was a way to post pics in these responses, I'd show ya the one I did.
At least you finished it, Joe, and did a good job. A lot of people would have given up when they lost interest.
You've made a clean, attractive build - nothing to fret over that I see. Mine's still in the box, though I did get some wheels from somewhere.
