1/48 Hobbycraft P-40

September 6, 2013 · in Aviation · · 3 · 1.4K

Standing alone, the version doesn't look bad. Sitting next to all the other 's on my shelf, doesn't improve the looks. The landing gear is the give away. It could stand to be raised about an 1/8th of an inch. The tail wheel needs an adjustment also. Simple fixes that I just didn't do because I trusted the OOB contruction to be what I wanted...not always a good move. The rest of the kit was a nice build, and looks ok, in fact I enjoyed it.

It seems quite few people don't care for Hobbycraft, It seems to me that they turn out some really nice models as long as they stick to what others haven't done. IMHO

  1. Hobbycraft did produce some very nice models, but their P-40 was not one of them. The landing gear is not the problem though, its actually the wing which is set way too low and some what further back from where it should actually be. Despite the obvious problems with the kit, you did a very nice job Joe.

  2. Could maybe make a nice XP-46 out of it? 🙂 Well -built model.

  3. Whether it's an accurate representation or not I don't know, but like all your stuff, it's obviously nicely built and finished.
