iModeler October Awards

November 9, 2013 · in Uncategorized · · 21 · 1.3K

It's high time again to award our last month's contributions. These were selected by the editorial jury among 101 new articles added during the month, prompting a total of 958 readers' comments.

As usual, we're awarding the iModeler Best in Show title to the entry that wins the jury's prize, but also list runner-ups as Honorable Mentions. We think that all are great modeling accomplishments that deserve recognition.

iModeler Best in Show - October 2013

Topping the jury's list this month is Seamus Boughe's ( @seamus1 ) refined 1/32 model of a Battle of Britain Spitfire. Among the very tough competition this month, the combination of artful presentation, care for detail and the bold weathering of Seamus' model result in an object of extraordinary presence that would also make a desirable display piece.

Achtung, Spitfire! wins our Best in Show award for October.

But wait, there is more!

We are also awarding a prize as a token of appreciation to all our contributors. This is selected through an entirely random draw among all the entries of the month. This time, our lucky winner is @jetmex Jaime Carreon with A picture, a story, and a really old model airplane

Thank you for sharing all those personal modeling stories at iModeler.

  1. Well deserved win Seamus.
    N.

  2. Congratulations Seamus, and Jaime ! Well done.

  3. Great choice, Bravo Zula Seamus. (p. s. I keep looking for a terrier sitting next to that excellent pilot, if you find "him" I hope you'll post a picture). Cheers!

  4. Well done Seamus, a deserved winner.
With such a high quality of builds this month the judging must of been difficult.
Also congratulations to Jaime as well, and to the all the other people mentioned.
    Well done to all.

  5. Congratulations Seamus, a strong model and presentation with some killer photos Wins the day. The competition ... many of the kits are awarding examples of what can be done in our hobby. Its too bad only one winner can be announced. The whole field has some neat photos that need some close eye balling to learn from. Two thumbs up for the month of October.

  6. Congrats, Seamus, on a well deserved award for an absolutely beautiful model!

  7. One of the best dioramas I have seen, Seamus. An excellent model.

  8. Well, slap my bum and call me "Sally". Just logged on and saw all this. Surprisingly shocked, sort of like Christmas morning on LSD. I am not in it to win it, but it is definitely nice when I do.

I have added a bit to my Spitfire since I posted those photos. I felt there was just too much empty space. So on the starboard side of the "Spit" I added a small wooden hardstand with some boxes and %% gallon drums.
Just like Mike, I originally wanted a dog for the pilot but good 1/32 dogs did not exist until recenly when I found in a "Masterbox" 1/32 RAF figure set. It is not a terrier though, looks my like a Labrador and has a real natural pose. I never painted a dog before, so right now it is a work in progress.

Many thanks for all the kind supportive words lads. Special thanks to imodeler for all the $25.00 adjectives they used in the description of my build and for being the only non-elitist modelling website that makes things easy to post.

  9. Actually, that is 55 gallon drums

  10. Congrats to everyone...they're ALL "winners" from where I sit.

  11. Indeed, well deserved! Great Spitfire!

  12. Congratulations, Seamus, excellent finished model, and also for keeping us up to date on the progress while you were building it, and well deserved to all the other winners, judging must have been almost impossible, so many excellent models.

  13. Hey "Sally" Well deserved indeed!

  14. Great work, very well deserved award. Congratulations Seamus.

  15. Congratulations to the winners!
Eh, still wish there had won the 109th!

  16. Congratulations to all of you. All of the entries were exceptional.
    Seamus,
Like Erich, I'll just stick to calling you Sally. I'll leave the other to someone else. I said when I viewed your in progress article I can't wait to see the finished product. Not a disappointment at all and obviously the judges thought so also. Outstanding piece of work.
Christmas on LSD? I don't want to picture that. Dating yourself a bit?

  17. glad to see this seamus...outstanding build

  18. Well done Seamus, nice work. Well done to everyone.

  19. Congratulations gentlemen! Well deserved indeed!
