P-51D Mustang 1/72

December 28, 2013 · in Aviation · · 5 · 1.8K

This is an old kit that I put together some years ago and tested some weathering techniques on it. The kit and its detail is not so good, but I was happy with the result of the weathering and the worn look of it.

I gave it a base coat of silver in an oilbased paint, and then covered it with an acrylic Olive Drab (I think it was GS paint). I then rubbed and buffed it down to make the silver come out in worn areas. The drop fuel tanks are painted in Alclad, since I wanted to test that paint to.

  1. Your new phone/camera seems to be working well, it shows up the subtle weathering a treat.

  2. Great job done on the Mustang, the subtle weathering techniques used have worked a treat by being not to overly done.
    Great ics as well.
    Well done.

  3. Johan,

I have to ask. Is that you on your avatar? Are you angry or just serious? I have all of the confidence in the world that inside that photo beats a happy heart.

  4. 🙂
Actually the avatar picture was taken when I did a job as an extra in an comercial film for a finnish newspaper. I am not that angry nor serious normally. 🙂
