Someone told me that the caption is wrong because the camouflage of Bf 109s were changed in August-September 1940 during the Battle of Britain.
I have been doing a research on Feldwebel Günther Kramer. My story start here.
I have a picture of a shoulder strap that belonged to this pilot.
I know there are some very knowledgeable members on this Website.
Can someone tell me what was the camouflage of Bf 109Es around August 31st, 1940 when Feldwebel Kramer was shot down?
Was the nose section painted yellow?
I think the Emils of this period were in transition from Eastern Front camo to that used in BoB. The undersides and fuselage sides were certainly blue. It's hard to tell from the photo if the under-cowling was yellow as the bright sunlight has affected the overall monochrome variation that might otherwise make it a clearer defintion between the blue and (probable) yellow.

I see from your avatar, we have another T-6 advocate among us...as for the Me-109, why not paint yours as the photo depicts ? Don't see many builds completed that way.

My brother took that picture last September at the Gatineau Air Show.
The pilot allowed me to climb in the cockpit.

That camouflage is the "official" camouflage, which was in place till the fall of 1940. During the Battle of Britain you could see everything from this style of camouflage to several different colors used to blotch the light blue sides, some done with sponges (JG2), some with paint brushes (JG27), there was no standard, and you could see airplanes with this camouflage in the same squadron with others, and no two alike in what had been done.
That's what I had figured, but I had no proof.

great shot of emils and very interesting shoulder board...that's quite an emblem...all most an edelweis or star cockade...nice to look at
I found out that Günther Kramer was born in 1918.
I will update my research on him next time.
