Airfix Hawk 81-A-2 in 1/72nd.

February 27, 2014 · in Aviation · · 15 · 1.6K

Built straight OOB. Good value for money, with good fit overall. There is a mistake in the decal sheet: the woman figure should be facing towards the cockpit, i.e. backwards on the starboard side. I only noticed this in the reference photos a few week I finished the model. So you need 2 decal sheets to make a correct model. Band on the fuselage is airbrushed.

  1. That looks cool Gordon, very nicely put together.
    Well done Gordon.

  2. Splendid little build!

  3. The Hell's Angel figure was not carried on the right side of the airplanes. That's an Airfix mistake.

    Nice work on the model.

  4. nice looking paint...i like the earth color

  5. Looks great. I've got one to the paint stage. Hope it turns out half as good as yours.

  6. I forgot to ask: what brand & colors did you use?

  7. Very nicely done given the small-ish scale...and who really knows if that figure was NEVER placed on the left of a P-40 somewhere? I like the build and photography...very crisp.

  8. I like the early P-40s, they look pretty slick with the recessed scoops on the nose. (The shark mouth looks better that way also!) I like the crispness of your color demarcations! What did you use for the antenna wires?

  9. Gordon,
Very nicely done. You do very good work in this small scale. Your camo is great.

  10. What really got me into modeling as a young lad was the Monogram P-40 and its been down hill ever since. The illustration on the box top and the kit was/is and according to some the "Best". Now that Airfix issued their version of the Shark Nosed hawk I had to buy a few boxes, The price is right and Gordon you've brought the subject up front and center again. That is one good looking bird. Two thumbs up.

  11. Superb! I've got one of these in the RAF desert airforce markings. Makes me wanna build it!

  12. Nice build, you can't have too many woman figures!
