1/48 Eduard Spitfire Mk.IXc

April 5, 2014 · in Aviation · · 22 · 2.6K

This is Mk.IXc finished with the markings of ML296, DU-N flown by F/Lt Otto Smik, No. 312 (Czechoslovak) Squadron, North Weald AB, Late August, 1944. Eduard s Profipack kit was the prize of iModeler Best in Show – August 2013.

Cockpit built OOB and painted to RAF cockpit green. Pilot seat painted to backallite color as usual . Flare rack on seat omitted later which was added in the beginning due to Eduard s instruction sheet (Thanks to Tom Cleaver for the warning)

Painting done with Gunze Sangyo and acrylics. Decals are from the box, they are beautiful except for the Czechoslovak national insignia under the canopy. White base color under the insignia seems very obvious. It s possible to replace it with an accurate one in the future.

Wheels replaced by old (and wise) “Cooper Details” Spitfires 4 slots wheels.

Finally this bird finished after applying a matt coat from Gunze Sangyo and some weathering issues.

Happy modeling

  1. Another stellar piece of workmanship, sir...amazing craftsmanship. I could totally understand it if you were to achieve a win (or least an honorable mention), each and every time you chose to participate in iModeler's monthly contest. In my opinion, your work is that good.

  2. Fantastic job done there Tolga.
    A very well done mate.

  3. Great!

    Best regards, Vlad.

  4. When I see a build like yours, it just reaffirms my love for the Supermarine Spitfire. Very well done indeed. The weathering is just right!

  5. Nice clean build, fantastic work on the cockpit!

  8. I never met a Spitfire I didn't like. Tolga for the Green Cameo, did you use a mask or did you apply the paint free hand, perhaps some tape with some thread placed on the edges?

What did you think of the exhaust stacks? Too fiddly? Manageable? or what where they thinking when they made this?

Its good to see the cockpit crow bar painted interior green and not the post war or War bird red.

Two thumbs up on doing a splendid lady.

  9. Really sharp Spitfire Tolga. The overall colors & finish look just right.

  10. Looks Pretty Perfect to me just the right amount of subtle weathering,
i need to ask the same question as Stephen, did you use the old blue tack method on your camouflage demarcation lines or did you use masking slightly raised off the surfaces to give a very faint feathered finish,
either way its a stunning model very well done Tolga

    • Thanks Mark
I cut paper masks for the upper surfaces and I placed them slightly raised off the surfaces by using UHU tac. And for the fuselage area I have made tubular Uhu tac parts for the demarcation line.

  11. Very well done.

  12. Just gorgeous Tolga. I always look forward to your submissions: they are always first class, especially the paint & weathering. Photography's pretty good too!

  13. amazing as usual Tolga great job

  14. Tolga,
Absolutely gorgeous MK IX. Your skills are awesome.

  15. Tolga, the way you describe your building of this kit makes it sound so simple, but, i know it takes a master craftsman like yourself to achieve these results.

  16. Thanks to all for their comments.

  17. Tolga, Wow! That has got to be one of the very nicest Spitfire's (or anything else, for that matter) I've ever seen. Of course that is what we have come to expect from Tolga Ulgur, and you are not going to disappoint us, correct? Absolutely stunning. And great photography, too. Gives me something to aspire to, but I think I need more practice! Thanks so much!

  18. Tolga, I have been an admirer of your work for a long time. Really great looking Mk.IX.
