Academy 1/48 F4U-4B

This is simply something I put together over the weekend. It’s far from Tamiya quality, but I acquired the model in a multi-kit deal and just wanted something simple to occupy my hands/mind over the holidays. Tried a few different things on it and tossed it in among the other (and better engineered) Corsairs. I have 8 of ’em in all (see pics), not counting the o-l-d Revell 32nd kit – which has now gone by the wayside – and the new Tamiya 32nd masterpiece (which I’ve yet to start). I was hoping to get all of the “fumbles” outta the way first.

  1. well my friend ,,to me you have great craftsmanship…

  2. Looks right at home with the others. Is there a story behind that paint scheme?

  3. nice work Craig, and great squadron of Corsairs

  4. Nice one Craig, more than I did over the holiday`s.
Lovely “fleet” of Corsairs you have.
    Well done Craig.

  5. excellent Corsair collection – they look great!

  6. Great work, Craig.

  7. Nice clean weekend build!

  8. Craig,
The scheme is interesting for a “what if”. You have quite a collection of Corsairs. If I have said it before I will say it again, I have never seen a Corsair that I did not like. What is the story on the early, silver Corsair on the stand. Did you build this one?

  9. You never cease to amaze me Craig, Another fine build and if I didn’t know any better one would say that you really have an affinity for the bent wing bird.

  10. what a wild scheme

  11. Color scheme is confusing. I asked myself if there is something about Corsair colors I have unnoticed. Well done in just one weekend!

    • One weekend isn’t unusual for a “shake-n’-bake” Tamiya kit….they’re a dream to build. As for the color scheme, I have a confession to make. I screwed up when I painted the top/bottom colors for the tail(s)….it isn’t the first time, either…and being too lazy AND, as is my nemesis, in a hurry, I just left it as is and the the wing the same way. There was most likely NEVER a Corsair painted like that, so don’t think you’re missing anything. Thanks.
