Revell 1/48 F-104G

April 17, 2014 · in Aviation · · 10 · 3.7K

The second of the ten dollar specials, this was originally intended to be the basis of a serious NMF effort-until I found it was smooth as a baby's behind as well. I really was hoping for engraved panel lines-this is a smooth tube, which, in what's left of my mind, doesn't help.

I used Model Master buffing metalizers, then sealed it with their proprietary mix, which dulled it more than I expected. Satin sealer went over the markings, then off to the display case it went. A day later I found some Microscale foil adhesive on the web. And started looking for a modern kit.

  1. Great paint work on a nice build! Can't wait for your next installment!

  2. Very nice finish on this one, Bryan.

  3. Nice job on an old kit. I have the same one sitting on the shelf. I am running away from the metal finish and thinking I will do the all-green finish that was used in the 70's.

  4. Bryan,
Another Monogram beauty completed by your expert hands.

  5. Like it! Love the Starfighter.

  6. I've checked out all three of your listings & like this one the best. Tough pick as all of them are great.

  7. Good news is it's cheap enough to do another if you don't like it. I myself never seal my metalizer just for the reason you mentioned. I do however like the fine panel lines on this kit because the real thing is that slick. I don't however like the step between the front and rear fuselage sections or the seam down the sides of the forward fuselage. It looks like you did an excellent job tackling those areas! If you're looking for good panel lines, the Hasegawa kit has 'em (and an easier assembly to boot) but I think they are a little over done.

This is all beside the point. What really matters is a great looking build on what I consider a difficult kit! Kudos!

  8. Nice clean build, great paint scheme.

  9. I am just in love with "bare metal" aircraft and this one is no exception!

  10. Another good job, Bryan. Keep them coming...
