A6M2b Zero (Airfix 1/72)

May 18, 2014 · in Aviation · · 24 · 2.4K

My latest build - a new tooling from Arfix. Great kit (as the others "new tooling" kits from this manufacturer). This is completely OOB build, except a Pitot tube made of syringe needle and canopy masks from Eduard. Chipping made with AK Worn Effects product, painted with Gunze Acrilycs. Also I've used oils with white-spirit and pigments for weathering effects.

Main goal of this build was to try chipping technique. I hope you'll like it 😉

  1. That "field applied" camo looks very realistic.

  2. Yep...nice weathering job. A lot of folks do as good, but then apply the markings/insignia with no weathering on 'em. Very nice (especially in that scale).

  3. Yep Dmitry! I like it a lot!

    Regards

  4. This is a case of good photography ( good choice of back round color), some excellent modeling, the paint chipping is of note, along with some good natural paint lines between the green and gray lines. The underside has been weathered well with the engraved panel lines...over this works brings out the best in the kit. Definitely a " Goldilocks" build.
    Two thumbs up.

  5. This is the first Airfix Zero I have seen built up. You have really sold it here.
    Great job.

  6. Fantastic job Dmitry! I like it a lot 🙂

  7. Lovely job. Great detailing in this small scale.

  8. Great job Dmitry, how was the fit of the parts?
I have found that some of the new tooling of their kits not so good.
    Well done sir.

    • Fit is very good (not excellent, but very good). The only thing that requires more attention is main landing gear and propeller shaft. Also, I've already built some new Airfix kits (Spitfire Mk.Ia, P-51D, P-40, Fw190, A-4) and there were issues only with Fw190 and P-40. Simon, what kits has this issues you're talking about?

  9. Thank you guys for your attention and comments! This is very, very motivating!

  10. Well done Dmitry, the weathering is lovely.

  11. Really nice, particularly at that small scale-you must have young eyes-I'd need an electron microscope.

  12. Dimitry,
This is absolutely gorgeous. Not only gorgeous but stunning. I this small scale you have created a masterpiece. My applause.

  13. Dimitry, I hope the new Airfix tooling is really as good as you made it look. Beautiful !

  14. Fantastic work, Dmitry, especially in 1/72 scale.

  15. Fantastic Mate, im going to give this chipping solution method a try i just hope it comes out nearly as good as this little beauty.
    Thanks Dmitry

    • Thank you, Mark! This model is my third or even fourth try of using "Worn Effects fluid", so some training will not be superfluous. If you'll use Gunze Acrylics - start to peel in 10-15 min. after painting.

  16. Airfix have a realy nice bach of kits... an yours ended Superb...
