Tamiya 1/48 Storch in Yugoslav markings

June 9, 2014 · in Aviation · · 13 · 2K

Here for my 2nd post is a scale . It is completely OOB except for some Eduard pre-painted seatbelts. Decals are from "Lift Here" and represent an aircraft from the Royal Yugoslav Air Force, ca Spring 1940.

  1. Excellent build on that 48th Storch...I did a 32nd Storch one time and it was STILL a beast to get together (at least for me) - lotsa "fiddly-bits" even in a larger scale. This is outstanding workmanship for it's scale. I can't even imagine trying one in 72nd! Nice work.

  2. Thanks Craig. This Tamiya kit was actually a real pleasure to build - the design on it was really great. There is one metal piece that comprises the wing spar and a stiffener for the landing gear. So that makes what would be a really weak wing attachment point quite strong. It also makes the gear fall into perfect alignment. Quite a clever addition to the kit. The 'fiddly bits' are still there, but that sure helps a ton. Also the side windows are molded in clear, integral to the gray fuselage. Makes for no muss with the 'glass'. Very cool bit of molding. You can see it on the left fuselage in the build photo with the cockpit. Try one - you will be pleasantly surprised!

  3. That looks very good Paul, nice to see it in a different countries colours and markings.
    Well done Paul.

  4. Very attractive Storch Paul. Engine looks very realistic.

  5. Paul,
Outstanding. This looks great. I read your comments to Craig and it sounds as if it is much easier than kits. the 1/32 Hasagawa and the 1/48 Essci. I built both of those and they were bears to build. I have this kit and your build inspires me to dig it out and build it. Great job.

  6. I seem to remember this was Tamiya's 100th kit release at the time. It has a delicate insect-like quality, and I like the unusual markings - something different.

  7. Great build Paul, I don't think we've had a Storch on i-modeler before, certainly not in those markings!

  8. beautiful paul

  9. Thanks for all the nice comments guys. Encourages further builds!

Rob - yes, it was Tamiya's 100th kit release - had special packaging and some neat 'extras' like that special molding of the clear parts, the metal insert, and also includes canopy masks (very helpful on this one).

"Lift Here" makes some unusual markings - and the decal quality was first rate.

Al - the engine is totally OOB - even includes a decal for the manufacturer plate.

Gregor - glad to hear it was the first Storch on here!

  10. Wonderful work, Paul, on a VERY fiddly kit to glue-up and get right. Yours is spot-on in every respect.

  11. Nice work, Paul. The Storch sure is all slats and flaps.

  12. Nice clean build, a beautiful little plane!

  13. Very attractive model, Paul, good build and finish, and unusual markings.
