Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat, Hasegawa in 1/48 scale
Hi, here comes my Hellcat from Hasegawa. Done a few years back, after collecting a lot of dust in my “flightline” i made a slight refurbish with it. Some clear on the canopy, a drop semi gloss varnish and a new antenna made from stretched sprue.
The Hellcat was completely build out of the box, wich means it has the infamous Hasegawa grin. But otherwise it is a great kit and a delight to build.
I hope it is not too bad, compared with upcomig Eduard “Cats”
“White 99” was the aircraft of Cdr. T Hugh Winters Jr., Commander Air Group 19, abort the
U.S.S Lexington. The unusual number aft of the canopy, the name and the kill marks makes
this Hellcat very special.
Glossy sea blue and the white markings are always attractive, i hope you like it 🙂

The Hasegawa “grin”….? What IS that ? Nicely finished model, by the way.
Bernd Müller said on September 12, 2014
Thanks Craig, this was done in the same time i got inside the “modelling internet” there was a lot to read about these wrong grin.
This stalled this otherwise fast build for almost a year, after this experience i asked myself, if i would notice it….the answer was NO !
I guess my collection is a horror cabinet for some modellers, but it s fun and just a hobby

Nicely done Bernd, smooth paint work and some nice pics.
They are a big old bird when compared to a Spitfire or Mustang.
Well done mate.

Thank you Simon, i displayed this one a time, side by side with a F4F
much bigger. The combat record of this one is hard to beat

Nice work, Bernd. Winters’ a/c is one of my favorite Hellcats.
Bernd Müller said on September 13, 2014
Thank you, John, these markings were a ” must” for me. Despite
this, you can t have to many, the next one will be “5” from the
U.S.S Essex with the “hour glass” painted on.

Bernd, I’m just grinning with pleasure admiring your model. It’s certainly a very attractive aeroplane, almost tempts me into having a go at one myself.
Bernd Müller said on September 13, 2014
Thank you George, Hellcats are great airplanes and look good
in every color scheme.
Hopefully we will see your Hellcat some day 🙂
My priority list changes almost daily !

Very nice Hellcat, Bernd high marks all around. Sure is a sweet building kit isn’t it, the fit of all the parts is outstanding as I recall. In regards to the “grin” I don’t think the “experts” liked the Eduard kit’s any better. I think the old Otaki F6F-3 is still considered the “gold standard” for getting all the shapes right. I wonder sometime if those guys ever find a kit that’s “buildible”. 😉
Bernd Müller said on September 15, 2014
Thank you Rick, its hard to find “good” kits and it is very interesting, that older kits have perfect outlines, not standard on
new ones

Looks amazing. I just got a 1/100 F6F and have been trying to decide whose aircraft I want to replicate.
