My Only Build Without Wings – Tamiya 1/48 Flakpanzer Mobelwagen
Ok – I had been noticing this series of 1/48 scale armor kits that Tamiya has steadily been releasing, and reading a lot of favorable reviews. I wanted a ‘quick’ fun build, so when I saw this i thought I would give it a try. I can honestly say I conducted no research whatsoever, just built what was in the box. It did give me a chance to try out some weathering techniques using washes and pastels, and I have to admit I had a lot of fun with this one. I will be sticking with aircraft, but this made a pleasant diversion for me – and it fits nicely in my display case as it is the same scale as almost all the aircraft in there!

A tank master on the first try there Paul! Really great weathering and paint. I am going to be looking a bit closer at this scale.
Good stuff.

thanks Steve – you do a lot of armor it looks like, so I appreciate the compliment!

If this is your first foray into the world of armor, you should definitely consider adding a few more pieces to the collection. Fantastic effort for the “first try”.

thanks Craig – it really is my one and only armor piece. I would consider more, but then there is that matter of all the aircraft still in the stash!

Wow! Very nice job!!!!
I’ve build a Chi-Ha tank once… it is very different to building aircraft.
Still have to build a “Brummbär” that I have in my stash for 3 years….. will be there for the next 300 or so……

Never hurts to stray off the beaten path once in a while. Very nice effort.

Thanks for the comments guys – it was a very fun little build for sure. Sometimes not knowing what is “wrong” makes it more fun. And I honestly don’t know what is or is not wrong with this kit – but it certainly went together well (and quickly). I think I may pick up a few more of the kits in this line – but then, that takes time away from the wingy things if I were to do that!

A change is as good as a rest, some say, and it certainly looks good from here, a really nice model, Paul.

Great wee tank Paul. I fancy doing the quadrupal flack mobelwagen.
Paul Mahoney said on September 21, 2014
hi Gregor – I actually wanted to do the quad one, but for some reason ordered this one by mistake! Years ago Monogram did a 1/35 (or 1/32) quad flak panzer that I used to see in the hobby shops and always thought it looked cool. I think Tamiya has that one in this line as well, so maybe if I stray again that will be next!

Paul,
You did an excellent job on this and it is refreshing once in a while to build a target. I have a feeling you are going to do more armor.

Congratulations, a very nice Möbelwagen. Started some vehicles in this scale
too, fits well with aircraft kits in this scale.
