Hurricane Mk2c

March 22, 2015 · in Aviation · · 22 · 1.9K

This kit is in from , and was my secret santa present from work!
It isn't the sort of subject I would normally model as my collection is fairly modern, so I decided to do it slightly different. The right side is the desert camo pictured on the box, and the left side is bare metal using Alclad paints.
Apologies again for defacing the classics! Thanks for looking.

  1. Well...that's different (I suppose they had to be 'sans paint' at some point). Nice job on the Alclad application(s).

  2. I like this Richard the Alcad side looks as though it has been shot blasted and lightly polished.
    Well done sir.

  3. Firstly, you clearly have a nice touch with this genre of aircraft (my favourite type - I know, weird) - not sure about the Alclad overall, as Hurricanes had as much wood as metal, but I'm no expert. Nice build.

    • Thanks very much Rob. They are made from a lot of wood and fabric. You can tell by the tail section that it is fabric stretched over the frame. I wasn't really going for realism with this one! I was originally thinking of doing a wood finish on one side, but I'd really need to hone my skills to pull that off. Maybe in the future.

  4. Very cool! And to Rob's point yes much of the hurricane fuselage was fabric covered. Maybe it is not too late to do that as well? That could look amazing if you were able to do it. Either way it is great as is!

  5. Looks good. As the others have said, most the hurricanes fuselage was fabric. I'm not sure of a silver doped version anywhere, but you're work is great. 🙂

    • Thanks Paul, cheers. I wasn't going for realism at all with this one. The left side is a modern day prototype based on classic design... that's my story anyway and I'm sticking to it!

  6. Richard,
Great model and very cleverly constructed. A nice concept to display the Herc. I think it looks great.

  7. Beautiful Hurricane! The cannon armed Hurricane is my favourite. The SAAF also flew them in the Western desert. I have seen photos of a Hurricane in natural metal and silver doped fabric. Good idea to split them like that!

  8. Very different and well thought out, nice work.

  9. Great finish work, and I love the fact that you took creative license with your project - keeping the fun in modeling is what it's all about!

  10. Nice idea, Richard, very unique and well done !

  11. Cheers mate, thanks very much!

  12. love those desert schemes and tropical filters
