SMER IL-2 1/72

March 19, 2015 · in Aviation · · 17 · 2.8K

This was one I finished in 2012. Not a bad kit, but the decals shredded so went to spares box. Also scratch built the oil cooler (at least I supposed that's what the cylindrical thing on the starboard wing is) and the tail counter weight, and added a pilot (can't remember if one came in the kit, but I put a pilot in all my builds).

  1. Greg, is that the oldish Polish kit? ZTS? Other than the ancient (and really bad) Airfix, that's the only one I can remember. I'm not all that into 1/72nd, but
with the new Airfix, I've sorta returned to the fold.
I saw Mikes DO-17, and HAD to have it. Full interior and bombload, miles away from the old Frog or Monogram. And now the new Defiant! Yowsa.
Nice work on the Stormavik, iconic WW II aircraft, lots built.

  2. "...the Russian tank that flies..." - nice work, Greg (I like your display stands, too).

  3. Nice one. What a beast. 🙂

  4. Very nice weathering, really it adds so much life to your model! 1/72 is so demanding when it comes to finding the golden mean around the details and in my opinion you did it great. Thanks for sharing. Great job.

  5. I always like Soviet aircraft, and this is a good looking build. I think Tamiya also do a version in 1/72.

  6. A plane with an aggressive touch to it! I can see it thundering over the Ukrainian plains hunting German Pantzer!

  7. Nice Il-2, great paint job. Is there a pilot in ?

  8. Nice paint application, an unusual subject, well constructed.

  9. Great Sturmovick. Good job!

  10. Greg,
    Looks great.

  11. I like this weathering ! Good job !

  12. very nice colors of green and bronze. WHat paints did you use?

    • @lis Lis, I'm not positive. Back then I brush-painted everything, and I was in the midst of converting over from using Model Master enamels to Vallejo Model Color acrylics. It was one of the two, but I can't be sure which!
