MiG-3 in winter colours

May 2, 2015 · in Aviation · · 14 · 3K

This is my attempt to build nice looking model from HobbyBoss Easy Assemble kit ( scale - HB has EA kits in 48 too). On the other hand this is probably the best kit in this scale and also I've wanted to play with the imitation of a temporary winter camo - there are a lot of interesting WWII subjects to build using this technique.

I've added instrumental panel, gun sight, seat belts and some other details to cockpit. Exhausts, machine guns and all air intakes were drilled out. Navigation and landing light were added. HB forgot about flaps, so I've added this too. And finally I've added rivets.

Painted with Vallejo colors, temporary white was made with several layers of Humbrol enamel chipped with brush and enamel thinner. Full WIP thread is here - http://imodeler.com/groups/work-in-progress-aircraft/forum/topic/172-hobbyboss-mig-3

Hope you'll like this little MiG!

  1. Nice little build...good work. BTW, what are those containers shown in the bottom view? I'm guessing wooden candle holders.

  2. Looks nice Dmitry, the weathering and winter camo are nicely done.

  3. Brilliant as expected, Dimity. Congrats !

  4. Very nice looking MiG!

  5. Great winter camo and the way you weathered the model is brilliant. I'm always too restrained when it comes to weathering but you inspired me to really give it a try. Thanks.

  6. Nice work there Dimitry. Those little HobbyBoss kits can turn out to be gems in the making.

  7. Beautiful work, Dmitry.

  8. Looks great, well done.

  9. Very convincing finish on this Dmitry. Great model!

  10. Very nice build.

  11. I like it! I've been contemplating doing a winter camo job on something, and this is further encouragement (and reference).

  12. Dimitry,
Excellently done as are all of your builds. I like the scheme and you have really captured the winter camo.

  13. The detail you've added, along with the excellent finish, make this a superb little MiG!
