Tamiya 1/25 Scale Cenurion Tank

May 19, 2015 · in Armor · · 21 · 3.7K

Firstly let me apologise for the poor pictures, I will post better ones when I get back home from the Congo.
This Centurion tank kit was released by in 1973.
The was a tank given to me to build from a friend of mine Tappie Scholtz (fellow iModeler), I wanted to try something different, and was this different, I had a hard time just finishing it, I lost interest in it so many times, and had to force myself to finish it before I started another project.
To all the Armor Builders, I take my hat off to you.

This was and will remain the last tank I build, so it is a milestone for me.
I had a hard time with the weathering as I have always built Aircraft, so feel absolutely free to criticize, I wont loose any sleep.

  1. Nice technique on the weathering/detail...and don't apologize for the pics - they look pretty good from here.

  2. The Centurion has to be my all time favourite tank, and I'm sure your friend Tappie is very pleased with what you've done with this kit. The weathering looks very convincing. I'm glad you managed to complete the model, it looks great!

  3. Nice work! I build a tank every few years and have always wondered what that big Centurion looked like built. Thanks for sharing it.

Sorry to hear that this will be your last tank . You did a great job on the weathering and over all the build came out great . Thanks for sharing .

  5. Hi Marc. A great looking Centurion! This formed the basis of the SADF's Olifant Mk.1 (Elephant) tank that formed the backbone of SADF tank ops in during the Angolan Bush War. Have fond memories of trudging along with pieces of tank tracks as tools of torture on punishment drills at the base in Bloemfontein. those were the days! Great weathering!

    • Hi Morne, wat se jy als. Those were the days, 'Vasbyt' I was not in Bloem but at Pretoria with my National Service, you just made me remember of a time long ago, thanks for the comment.

  6. I think you did a fantastic job on the weathering - at least from a fellow aircraft-builder's perspective!

  7. "...feel absolutely free to criticize"...?
    What's to criticize?
You should sleep well! - great job.

  8. Woo Hoo! I love the Tamiya 1/25 kits. The Centurion is probably their best of the series, yours looks great!

  9. Hi there Rob, thanks for the positive comment, maybe I should retract my last statement about not building any more Tanks. Thanks again.

  10. I'm sorry to hear armour isn't your thing. You can't tell though Marc, that's a cracking tank, the weathering is awesome!

  11. Thanks for the positive comment Richard.

  12. I get goosebumps looking at it. Well done buddy. I told you you can build anything. I must get you to dip wings from time to time. I have seen what you can do to aircraft, and I have seen what you did to my Centurion. Awesome modeller, not just because you are my buddy, but because you are very blessed.

  13. Hey Bud, you made my day, to get such a great comment from you means a lot to me, I am glad you like it,

'Just don't tell me the cheque is in the mail' HaHaHa.
See you next week, we will get in the ZONE.
