As I mentioned previously, I've been taking new photos of some older models. This one looks O. K. ,so I'll throw it in with some of the other astounding bi-plane builds that have been presented lately.

  1. Planes look great on floats. Nice work Phil and very nice photos as well.

  2. Thanks. I actually tried to photograph it "floating", but I had problems with reflection. It looks good flying though.

  3. Very nice, Phil. A lot of detail in a small space, and the colours work well together.

  4. Wow, I am trying to think how old that kit is. I'm remembering release in 1969 or 1970...

Nice work on it. As I recall, there's nice surface detail. If someone did a resin cockpit for that, you could really have something competitive with anything released today.

    • It was an old kit, but sealed and in good shape. The decals caused no problems. A wheeled version could also be built, but the float version stands out. The bracing bars are scratch.

  5. That's a beautiful job on an olds but a goody. ๐Ÿ™‚ Well done. ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. That does look really good, Phil, very nice clean build. Have you seen the more recent ICM kit?

    • Thanks Mike. I didn't do any weathering, not even exhaust. All of the period photos I found indicated a very clean aircraft. The handling it took to do the rigging and float bracing was enough.
Don't recall seeing the ICM kit. I'll bet is a smasher !

    • Just found one on E-bay. Doesn't appear to be a re-boxing. Now--what to do---?

  7. 1/72nd scale AND rigging...you, sir, have the patience of Job. Nice work.

  8. I don't build many biplanes (so far I've only tackled the Grumman Duck, but I do have a Fieseler Fi-167 in my stash, and a couple of IJN WWII bipes also), but this one is on my wish list as well - I just like the look of it. I really like the float option also! Nice clean build. Did you use sprue or line for the rigging?

    • Thanks Greg. The rigging and antenna is 2 lb fishing line, my old standard. I used .015 brass rod for the float bracing bars. The floats are weighted with forty skeet shot pellets each in the front end to reduce the tail sitting.

  9. I love it Phil! I have the Classic Airframes He-51 in 1/48 in my stash. Those pre-WWII bi-planes are really cool. Great job on that one sir!

  10. ๐Ÿ™‚ ... Greetings ... ๐Ÿ™‚ :
    Nice clean work and photography.

  11. Nice clean build, good photo work.

  12. The He 51 is one of my favorite post WWI biplanes. You did a sterling job !
    Excellent build !

  13. Nicely done Phil.

  14. VERY nice! I especially like the "flying" shot! How? Taken from underneath on glass? Clever! If so, you did a great job of getting zero reflections!

    • This shot was set up with the model hanging from the close line suspended with fishing line. The line was was photo shopped out and the prop blurred.
