Airfix 1:48 Spitfire Mk.Ia
Airfix kits just seems to get better and better. one of their latest is this Spitfire Mk.Ia in 1:48 scale. Detail, shape, and fit are first rate, they just seem to get better and better with each release.
i chose a Battle of Britain Mk.I, in the markings of No.19 Squadron, QV-I, serial No. X4474, flown by Sgt. Bernard Jennings, September 1940. Roundels and Squadron Codes are masked and painted using Maketar Masks. Data stencils are from a HGW Wet Stencil sheet, (brilliant stuff), as are the raised rivets on the aft fuselage. the rest of the airframe was riveted using assorted riveting tools.
Paints are mostly Mr. Color Lacquers and Gunze Sangyo acrylics. Cockpit was detailed using Eduard P.E. sets and assorted wire.

Nice looking SPITFIRE Roger, the weathering is well done .
Nice understated paint-fade and panel lines. Cockpit looks first-rate, with my usual provisio re aircraft in that everything gets closed-up to a viewing space of about three centimetres square, so that only the modeller knows all the work that went into the area in the first instance.
I'm like nice build and details but aging Wetering is overdone for
Spitfire from Battle of Britain.
HGW stencils the products of the future quality I like to use them.

Personally, I think the weathering is quite correct for a BoB Spitfire. Many of the Spitfires (and Hurricanes) used during the BoB were originally used during the Battle of France. BoB aircraft were rode hard and put away wet often flying several sorties a day taking off from dirt fields. Many of these fields did not possess hangers so a lot of these aircraft, when not flying , were exposed to the Summer sun as well as other elements. Flying over the channel, BoB aircraft were also exposed to salty air. Bottom line, these aircraft took quite a beating on many different levels. The weathering is far from overdone.
